The phase Pete Carroll used was “over-trying.”

That’s how the ninth-year Seahawks head coach described the play of veteran quarterback Russell Wilson on ESPN 710 on Tuesday morning, hours after Seattle dropped a 24-17 decision to the Chicago Bears to fall to 0-2.

Wilson had one interception and a lost fumble in the defeat. He was also sacked six times, five of which occurred in the first half. Seattle’s 12 sacks allowed through two games ranks dead last in the NFL. Carroll added Wilson is pressing in difficult situations instead of getting rid of the ball. He has a tough matchup against the Cowboys in Week 3.

Seahawks wide receiver Doug Baldwin did some work at practice on Monday and coach Pete Carroll said he’s on track to play in the regular season opener after dealing with knee issues all summer, but that doesn’t mean that Baldwin’s knee is 100 percent.

It also doesn’t mean that his knee is going to be 100 percent anytime soon. Baldwin spoke to reporters on Tuesday and said it feels good to be running around again, but that he knows he is going to have to manage the knee throughout the season.

Baldwin says right now he's about 80-85-percent and he doesn't figure to get to 100-percent. As the story said, Baldwin may have to miss time at some point this season, be it practice or possibly a game. This is definitely something to keep in mind if you were considering drafting Baldwin.

The one-year deal Seattle gave WR Brandon Marshall in May includes only $90,000 guaranteed, which is reflective of his age (34) and uncertain health as he comes off surgeries on his ankle and toe. The Seahawks' ideal scenario would have the 6-foot-5 Marshall getting back to full speed before the season and giving Russell Wilson the big target he lost when Jimmy Graham left in free agency. But if Marshall isn't progressing as well as hoped and/or if the Seahawks decide there's more value in keeping a younger receiver instead, they could move on relatively painlessly before the season begins.

This would only further solidify Doug Baldwin as a high-floor WR option in the late-second/early-third round of fantasy drafts with fellow WR Tyler Lockett a trendy sleeper in the double-digit rounds.

TE Jimmy Graham had 10 touchdown receptions this season in what was his third year in Seattle. And he is maybe Russell Wilson’s best friend on the team — Wilson entertainingly referred to Graham on Monday as being “like a unicorn. There are only so many of them in the world.’’ Generally considered really unlikely to be back in Seattle.

The author noted that Graham has been an uneven fit in Seattle and at age 31 is undoubtedly excited to enter free agency for the first time in his NFL career.

It was both a good and a bad thing that Russell Wilson, to use the words of coach Pete Carroll, was able to run “all over the place” Sunday in a 14-5 loss at Tampa Bay.

The good was the obvious that it was another continuing sign of Wilson’s return to health and normalcy that he had 80 yards on eight carries — one more yard rushing than he had for the entire season coming into the game.

What was Wilson’s first official run of the game came in the second quarter and went for 17 yards — eight yards longer than any run he had had this season until Sunday.

So yep, it appears Wilson is pretty much back to normal after the trio of injuries that hampered him the first seven weeks of the season.

“Yeah, it felt great out there running,” Wilson said.

It's more good news for fantasy owners who have been hurt by a banged up Wilson most of this year. The Seattle offense seemed to be making strides before producing just three points this week in a 14-5 loss to Tampa.
