Streaming Quarterbacks: Week 8 Targets
Week 8 looks like a rough one for QB streamers. With so many bye weeks, we only have six qualifying QBs to choose from – all the rest are owned in at least 40% of leagues, which is too much for them to qualify for our purposes. In a rough week like this one, we are left choosing among terrible options. At least in many deep leagues we are.
On the season, our optimal streaming QB is scoring 22.17 points, good enough for QB9 overall. Our streaming choices have scored 19.73 points on average through seven weeks. That works out to QB16. (If we include two injury-shortened streaming weeks, out of our 21 choices so far, our average is 18.36, or QB19.)
As before, I focus on QB points per game and the Vegas implied team totals to determine good QB streamers, then I add in their matchup for the week. For opposing defenses, we utilize Schedule-Adjusted Fantasy Points allowed (aFPA).
Week 8 QB Streaming Targets
Josh McCown (CLE) vs NYJ
Josh McCown may be back under center in Cleveland this week, and that could mean fantastic things for those of us desperate for QB help in a tough week. In his one week this season, he threw for 260 yards and 2 TDs against a fine Ravens defense. The Jets are a favorable matchup, giving up 19.1 aFPA to opposing QBs. If Cody Kessler starts instead, he’ll be an option, although I would be less confident in him.
McCown is available in 99.4% of ESPN public leagues, and he is my optimal QB streamer of the week, if he starts.
