The Saints got back to work Saturday after a four-day layoff and got back to the basics in practice.
Coach Sean Payton compared it to a training camp practice, with the offense and defense working against each other and a heavy emphasis on fundamentals. Players said it was a high-energy practice, and the time off helped rest and rejuvenate them. The Saints will have a similar session Sunday before taking Monday off.
Tailback Pierre Thomas, who is trying to recover from three broken ribs, was out on the field, but he was wearing a yellow non-contact jersey while the media was present for the stretching period.
Receiver Lance Moore (ankle) and cornerback Malcolm Jenkins (hamstring) did not practice Saturday but both said they're expecting to be back on the field Tuesday when the team begins its regular practice schedule.
