IDP Waiver Wire: Week 2 Targets
Welcome back, folks! The NFL season has finally returned and as always astute waiver wire play will be a key factor in deciding who wins your league. This is especially true over the first few weeks of the season when all the undiscovered gems sparkle, so without any further preamble, let's get stuck into some targets for your Week 2 lineups.
Linebackers
Cole Holcomb - Washington Redskins
A fifth-round rookie out of North Carolina, rookie Cole Holcomb has stepped into the Redskins lineup as a Week 1 starter at inside linebacker alongside Jon Bostic, over Shaun Dion Hamilton, which has immediately gotten our attention. The former college walk-on, Holcomb, has the skill set to be a three-down linebacker in the NFL, which is a prerequisite for any meaningful fantasy value. While he wasn’t able to lock down a three-down role heading into Week 1, Holcomb did see the field for 68% of snaps (Dion Hamilton just 41%) and register nine total tackles (two for a loss) in his pro debut.
We will want to monitor his snap count and the playing time of Dion Hamilton, but I like Holcomb as an upside LB3/4 and he has a decent matchup next week against the Cowboys.
Kyzir White - Los Angeles Chargers
Keeping with the youth movement, second-year pro Kyzir White was named the starting middle linebacker for the Chargers and turned in a solid display in Week 1 against the Colts, recording nine total tackles (one for a loss). White was being given plenty of playing time as a rookie before a Week 3 knee injury forced him on to the injured reserve, but he looks to have picked back up where he left off in 2019, playing 86% of snaps on Sunday.
Without Derwin James mopping up tackles in the box and a defensive line focused on disrupting the quarterback, White looks set in a position to accrue some decent fantasy points over the course of the season. He is shaping up as an upside LB3.
