IDP Waiver Wire: Week 7 Targets

An interesting mix of rookies and veterans this week as we reach what is probably the half-way point of many of your league’s regular seasons. With that being the case, it may be time to start throwing some caution to the wind in your pursuit of a playoff place which means not shying away from some of the riskier picks.

Linebackers

Nick Vigil - Cincinnati Bengals

After a slow start to the season recording just 14 total tackles through the first three weeks, Nick Vigil has returned three consecutive double-digit tackle performances in the last three weeks. Playing his fourth year as a pro, Vigil has locked down the Bengals starting three-down ILB role, a step up from his usage in previous seasons and his fantasy value has taken a boost as a result. Vigil’s value is further boosted by the 0-6 Bengal’s mediocrity as opposing teams can lean more on the run to close games out, which provides Vigil with ample tackle opportunities. Vigil profiles as a strong LB2 for the remainder of the season.

Harold Landry - Tennessee Titans

It’s rare that I recommend a 3-4 outside linebacker as a fantasy pickup, but the Titan’s second-round pick from a year ago has been a productive contributor in his second season as a pro. Slowed by an ankle injury as a rookie, Landry posted a lackluster 4.5 sacks on 591 snaps, totals he is on schedule to surpass this year. Through six games Landry already has four sacks on 336 snaps, but perhaps more impressively (at least for fantasy gamers) he has also charted 29 total tackles which makes him a viable start in scoring systems outside of big-play leagues.

Due to the fact that his points production is a little more volatile because he's a pass-rusher, it’s hard to project Landry as more than an LB3, but he has a much higher floor than his edge-defending peers. If you are playing in a scoring system that rewards splash plays he might sneak into low-end LB2 value.
