Rookie Denver wide receiver Demaryius Thomas was having a standout performance at the team's Saturday evening practice session at Invesco Field before coming up lame on the tail end of a touchdown catch. Quarterback Kyle Orton later flanked Thomas on the bench in support as head trainer, Steve Antonopulos, examined Thomas’ left foot.
The good news is that Thomas did not need assistance to the locker room for further testing.
However, immediately after practice, it was learned the early diagnosis on Thomas was an aggravated left foot injury. This is the same left foot that the young prospect out of Georgia Tech suffered a clean fracture on during a three-cone drill in a pre-draft workout and subsequently prevented him from participating in the NFL scouting combine the very next week.
Additionally, there was discussion of scheduling a CT scan on Thomas’ foot Sunday as extra precaution to determine with more certainty whether Thomas’ aggravation was being caused by old or new damage, a combination of both, and to what extent. The initial determination is that it's not a serious situation, relatively speaking.
A CT scan (Computed Tomography imaging) can be used to aid in the diagnosis of a foot or ankle problem as well. When it comes to diagnosis, it can be advantageous over other x-ray techniques in that it more definitively shows the shape and exact location of soft tissues and bones.
CT scans can be ordered for the following foot pathologies: fractures, tumors, arthritis, infections, and post-operative monitoring.
If there's one team that is eager for training camp to end, it's the Broncos.
