IDP Waiver Wire: Week 12 Targets
With the fantasy playoffs looming large on the horizon, the time for caution is gone. It’s go big or go home, so on that basis be prepared for some more speculative suggestions.
Linebackers
Matt Milano - Buffalo Bills
After a step forward in his second year in the league, Buffalo’s 2017 fifth-rounder, Matt Milano was handed an every-down role in the Bills defense this season and he is seizing that opportunity. 64 total tackles through his first 10 games of the season has been a solid start, but it has been over the last month where Milano has really begun to grab some fantasy attention. The Boston College grad has posted three double-digit fantasy point returns over the last four weeks by adding 1.5 sacks and his first double-digit tackle performance making him a player to consider if you’re still struggling to find start-worthy ‘backers for a final playoff push.
Brennan Scarlett - Houston Texans
Being an outside linebacker in the Texans scheme, Brennan Scarlett is more of a pass rusher than I would usually recommend as a linebacking waiver wire pickup, but as already noted in this week’s piece, the time for caution has passed.
Scarlett has seen an increase in his playing time, getting on the field for over 70% of snaps for the last three games compared to playing only one game over 40% in the first seven weeks of the season and as a result, he has seen his fantasy points production go up. Over the last four games, Scarlett has registered 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble, while averaging 5.5 tackles a game, which has meant he posted double-digit fantasy returns in his last two games. Because of his role in the defense (rushing the quarterback), there will be some boom and bust in his scoring, but everything is trending up for Scarlett over the final weeks of the season.
