Fantasy Football Quarterback Streaming Week 2: Carson Wentz Set Up for Success Again

One week down. Four months to go. We’ve got actual data to review after our first week of games, and it’s time to react. But let’s not overdo it. It’s natural to toss aside off-season analysis after our first looks at live action. But, we’ve only got a single data point. Let’s review last week’s results, make adjustments as needed, and dive into Week 2 for some streaming recommendations.

Week 1 Results

Accountability is important, but I do a quick review each week to try and address the “why.” Understanding the “thesis of the play” puts us in a better position to find the optimal targets each week.

I’m not necessarily surprised by Wentz’s boxscore results. I expected an interception or two with a few rushing yards to compensate. However, I didn’t expect the aggression. Three of his four touchdowns came on attempts of 15-plus air yards. The Commanders had a 75.0% red-zone passing rate. I assumed Washington would be more balanced given Wentz’s history, but I’ll look at this passing attack in similar situations.

On the flip side, Matt Ryan concerns me. Well, more so the entire aerial offense. I get Jonathan Taylor is The Engine, but Ryan and his receivers were supposed to benefit from Taylor’s success. They ran 20 plays inside Houston’s 20-yard line and came away with two touchdowns.

I’ll concede part of the problem was drops. Regardless, this level of inefficiency leads to a tie against a weaker opponent. The 53.3% red-zone passing rate is encouraging, but we’ll need to see more from Ryan to feel safer about starting him.
