Perfect Fantasy Football Draft: 5th in a 12-Team Yahoo Half-PPR League
While the fifth spot isn’t the most exciting to draft from, it can provide a balanced roster by avoiding any crazy positional runs. This year that slot offers flexibility in roster construction from the start, with top WRs, RBs, and even consensus TE1 Travis Kelce to choose from with your first selection.
With Yahoo half-PPR scoring this draft can go a number of different ways from this spot, and staying flexible can lead to positive results. While it may be frustrating to not have picks close together and feel slightly out of control, the benefit is not having to wait too long in between your turns.
In this article, I will walk through my favorite players in each round that should be available to me based on Yahoo ADP and discuss my overall draft strategy from this draft spot.

My Plan of Attack When Drafting Fifth
Roster Settings: 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, 1 Flex (WR/RB/TE), 1 Kicker, 1 DEF, six bench spots
Because Yahoo drafts start three WRs, my plan is to load up on the position early so that I have more flexibility in my roster management throughout the season. I’ll likely grab one strong RB as my anchor in the first handful of picks then wait until the latter part of the draft to add more depth. If a decent RB2 falls to me I’ll pivot, but that slot will likely be more of a committee approach for me in 2023.
Since I will be likely staying away from the RB position in the middle of the draft, I’m opening up the possibility for both a QB and TE, allowing me to grab some of the late-round flyers with upside at the end of the draft instead of gambling at the onesie positions that late.
