Fantasy Football: Value RBs

F.Jones

I recently listed several value WRs that can be had in the middle rounds of fantasy football drafts. Now it's time to tackle the RB position. Below you'll find seven players whom I believe are poised to outperform their draft position in PPR formats. I'll also discuss a few third-down backs who will offer steady (low-upside) value along with six backups who may have a chance to make a few starts in 2011.

I'll list each player's ADP and PPR rank at 4for4 in parenthesis (ADP, PPR 4for4 rank) to give you an idea of his current stock and value.

MIDDLE ROUND VALUE

Felix Jones (5.06, RB17)

Jones appears to be a great value, especially in PPR formats since he's the Cowboys' most lethal weapon out of the backfield. He didn't score many TDs in 2010, but that could change given his big-play ability. He's a solid RB2 that can be had in the 4th or early 5th, and he should benefit from all the attention that defenses will have to pay to the Cowboy passing game. I don't expect DeMarco Murray or Tashard Choice to threaten Jones' RB1 status barring injury.

Knowshon Moreno (4.01, RB19)

Moreno dodged a bullet when DeAngelo Williams re-signed with the Panthers, so he remains the RB1 in Denver, at least for now. He's reportedly in great shape and had a solid 2010 in PPR formats. Willis McGahee is going to eat into his goal-line work, but Moreno should see the lion's share of the carries and all of the third-down work, which makes him a solid value in the 5th round, and that's where he's been going in recent PPR drafts. Remember, John Fox loves to run the ball, and his system can usually support two RBs.

Fred Jackson (6.07, RB24)

There is an obsession with youth in the world of fantasy football, but what the 30-year-old Jackson has accomplished in the last two seasons should not be overshadowed by C.J. Spiller's upside. Jackson has low miles for his age and is a good receiver out of the backfield. Since the Bills' offense isn't great, he's not going to score many TDs, but he's a good bet to go over a 1,000 total yards and offer fringe RB2 numbers in the 6th round. He's a very steady RB3/flex option in PPR formats.
