Denver Post: There are too many ailments, too many issues, too
many question marks. As we speak, Mike Shanahan hasn't named a
starter for Sunday's game at Carolina. For all we know, he won't
do it until an hour or two to game time. Such is life in the
Broncos' backfield these days. Here's what I can tell you: Tatum Bell is healthy, in shape and ready to go. But that doesn't mean
he'll start, much less tote the rock 20-25 times. He may start. In
fact, if I had a guess, I'd say he will. But again, there are no
guarantees, just question marks. Which brings us to Selvin Young,
who has missed the better part of two months with a strained
groin. Young "feels like he can go," said Broncos coach Mike
Shanahan. But then, we've heard that before, only to see Young's
name on the inactive list. Besides, said Shanahan, "Any time
you're out eight weeks, it's hard to tell what type of football
shape a guy is in." Given the wacky ways of the Broncos' season,
that probably means Young will suit up and run for 100 yards and
two touchdowns against the Panthers. I just wouldn't count on it.
