Quarterback By Waiver Wire (QBBWW): Week 16
Week 15 was the equal and opposite of Week 14 in this little Quarterback By Waiver Wire space.
Our Trestman approach worked once again, with Jay Cutler managing 19.7 fantasy points despite a slow start, but Jason Campbell and Joe Flacco were QBBWW disasters during a week that saw Alex Smith, Ryan Tannehill, and Ryan Fitzpatrick post huge lines.
It was a disheartening week, and I think there’s a lesson here: volume won’t make every quarterback a viable streaming play. The matchups for Flacco and Campbell were undeniably solid, though not spectacular.
The Bears’ big-bodied wide receivers once again proved invaluable in our usage of Chicago’s signal callers. Cutler’s Week 15 highlight was a straight-up jump ball for Alshon Jeffery, who fought off double coverage for yet another eye-popping score in a season full of them.
The caliber of the Bears’ pass catchers has been a boon for QBBWW adherents all season. And yet, Cutler is owned in less than 20 percent of leagues.
My QBBWW picks through 15 weeks are averaging 17.3 fantasy points per game, or QB6 numbers (thanks to a few Week 15 duds from top signal callers). Optimal QBBWW plays are averaging 22.5 points, or QB2 numbers.
Now let’s turn to the waiver wire and find a fantasy title-winning quarterback.
