Streaming Tight Ends: Week 9 Targets
With 6 teams on a bye in Week 9, including two every week plug-and-play tight ends, the TEBWW strategy is going to be a very popular option this week. For anyone that is a newcomer to tight end streaming, the goal is to target average tight ends that have a premium matchup or have seen a recent increase in workload. In a perfect world we find an option with both factors in their favor, but with tight end being such an under-utilized position, that isn’t always the case.
In order for tight ends to be considered streaming options, they must be available in at least 40% of Yahoo fantasy leagues. This ensures that our weekly picks are available to most owners.
In Week 8, owners were unable to benefit from one of the most attractive TEBWW options of the season, when Owen Daniels was sidelined mid-week after a knee procedure. Scott Chandler salvaged his low target day with a touchdown and turned in 8.2 PP fantasy points, while Coby Fleener became an afterthought in a shootout where the Colts were forced to push the ball downfield.
Through 8 weeks, our TEBWW options are averaging 8.5 PPR FP/game, or mid range TE2 numbers, while or optimal TEBWW pick is averaging 13.5 PPR FP/game, good enough to be the overall TE6 on the season.
Here’s a look at the top TEBWW candidates for Week 9:
Coby Fleener at NYG
As I touched on in the intro, the Colts mostly abandoned throwing to their tight ends against the Steelers in Week 8, but a quick glance at the box score shows that Coby Fleener saw twice as many targets as Dwayne Allen, and they are now even in targets this season, but Allen is owned in 75% of leagues, while Fleener is owned in just 31%.
Predicting tight end production from a team that uses two tight ends equally can be difficult, but there should be plenty of opportunities for both Fleener and Allen against a Giants team that ranks 30th in aFPA to tight ends. Vegas projects this as one of the highest scoring games of the week, with an over/under over 50 points, so red zone opportunities should be abundant and Fleener is tied for the 6th most targets among tight ends inside the opponent’s 10 yard line.
