IDP Defensive Playbook - Week 3
Welcome to your Week 3 IDP Defensive Playbook. Each week, I'll highlight some of the top defensive waiver wire targets, as well as matchups to exploit in each game. Week 2 is in the books and there were some fine performances and some stinkers thrown about. Injuries reared their ugly head with the biggest names coming out of Philadelphia in Mychal Kendricks and Kiko Alonso. Before I look at Week 3, here's how my Week 2 waiver targets performed:
- Damon Harrison, DT, NYJ: No stats
- Phillip Hunt, DE, DET: Two tackles
- Daquan Jones, DE, DET: One tackle
- Henry Anderson, DE, DET: Five tackles/One sack
- AJ Klein, LB, CAR: Four tackles/One defended pass/One INT
- Koa Misi, LB, MIA: Four tackles
- Vincent Rey, LB, CIN: Four tackles/One defended pass/One INT
- Nate Palmer, LB, GBP: Four tackles/One defended pass
- Buster Skrine, CB, NYJ: Eight tackles
- Glover Quin, S, DET: Five tackles
- Ronald Darby, CB, BUF: Four tackles/Two defended passes
- Cary Williams, CB, SEA: Three tackles
Defensive Line
Vic Beasley, DE, ATL: Beasley abused the Giants offensive line in Week 2 after a less than stellar 2015 debut. Beasley recorded five total tackles and also recorded a sack. Beasley generated pressure on nearly 10 percent of his blitzes and could emerge as the disrupter the Falcons drafted. Dan Quinn is going to enjoy deploying this kid on opposing QBs.
Jacquies Smith, DE, TB: Smith was one of my favorite linemen coming into 2015 and exploded in Week 2 against the New Orleans offensive line. He abused the line for three sacks while generating pressure on 14 percent of his blitzes, while also recording three solo tackles (one for a loss). If he’s on your wire, grab him and plug him in for the remainder of the year.
Stephon Tuitt, DE, PIT: If someone jumped off Tuitt after Week 1, now is the time to grab him because Week 2 is what is expected of him in Pittsburgh’s defense. While Tuitt produced a five-percent tackle rate, he had one for a loss and produced pressure on 14 percent of his blitzes, converting two pressures into sacks. Tuitt has DE2 upside.
