Bevell: AP will continue to get first set of carries

In his Friday mailbag, Tim Twentyman of the Detroit Lions was asked about the team's approach to the running back situation. "Offensive coordinator Darrell Bevell said this week Adrian Peterson will continue to get the first set of carries," said Twentyman. "D'Andre Swift will be mixed in early on too. It sounds like Kerryon Johnson has solidified a role on third down. It's really going to depend on the hot hand early in terms of carries between Peterson and Swift as the games moves forward."

"That being said, Swift will still play a big role in the passing game. He is the team's second-leading receiver with 16 catches."

Fantasy Impact: 

Swift and Peterson saw the majority of work for the Lions backfield in Week 6, and it appears that will not change. Swift finally broke out last week, but as long as A.P. is healthy, the two will continue to have similar workloads.

Lions RB Adrian Peterson (illness) returned to take full practice reps Friday after missing practice Thursday. Peterson is a decent option this week given a favorable matchup with the Jaguars.

In his weekly '10 Questions' column, Tim Twentyman was asked if RB D'Andre Swift would see his role increase. "Swift is already playing a bigger and bigger role in the passing game every week," wrote Twentyman. "He's been a nice matchup weapon for the Lions out of the backfield."

"It really comes down to which of Detroit's backs gets the hot hand early, but I still expect Adrian Peterson to be the lead back moving forward."

Fantasy Impact: 

Twentyman is as trusted a Lions source as there is on the beat. Peterson was signed prior to Week 1 and has established himself as the lead back, for good or bad. Swift missed a chunk of training camp and needed to show he had a grasp of the offense before being trusted, and that is where the increased touches has come from so far. It is hard to imagine Peterson being the lead back for 16 games, but unless Swift outplays the future Hall of Famer with limited snaps, then this is what the backfield will be.

Lions RB Adrian Peterson (illness) was added to the injury report Thursday after missing practice. This is worth monitoring since the Lions have a great matchup with the Jaguars. If Peterson were unable to play, D'Andre Swift and Kerryon Johnson would each get a significant bump.
