GB WR Allen Lazard - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 vs. New York Giants (London)
After taking a backseat to rookie Romeo Doubs in Week 4, it was Allen Lazard who erupted in Week 5. Doubs and Lazard tied for the team lead with eight targets, but Lazard caught six of them for 115 yards while Doubs only managed 47 yards on his five catches (but also found the end zone). The Packers passing game was the source of a lot of offseason uncertainty, but it appears to have settled with a concentrated target distribution focused on Doubs, Lazard, and the running backs with Christian Watson and Robert Tonyan serving smaller roles than anticipated. Both receivers should have opportunity to produce against a middling Giants defense in Week 5. Lazard is a solid flex play against New York on Sunday.

GB WR Allen Lazard - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. New England Patriots
Despite the preseason optimism about Allen Lazard's potential new role, he is off to a slow start in 2022. Lazard missed Week 1 and has gone on to post lines of 2-13-1 and 4-45-0. Lazard's fantasy upside hinged largely on him assuming the unquestioned #1 role in the Green Bay passing game. That appears to have been optimistic as Romeo Doubs is an exciting rookie who saw eight targets in Week 3 and Aaron Rodgers appears to be going with a committee approach at pass catcher for the most part. Lazard gets a tough matchup against the New England secondary in Week 4, making him a borderline starter at best in fantasy.

GB WR Allen Lazard - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Allen Lazard salvaged his Week 2 fantasy line with a 5-yard receiving touchdown, but otherwise he was not nearly as involved in the Green Bay offense as initially thought. Lazard only saw three total targets, catching two balls for 13 yards and the aforementioned touchdown. Lazard's 2022 ceiling projection relied heavily on him assuming a large workload in the wake of Davante Adams' departure. At least in Week 2, that assumption looked unfounded as the Green Bay running backs remained the focus of the offense while the receiver depth chart formed a committee. Week 3 brings a matchup with Tampa Bay's stout defense, although the matchup also raises the possibility of increased passing volume given the Bucs' propensity for shutting down opposing rushing games. Even so, Lazard is a shaky flex play at best until we see him more involved in the offense on a consistent basis.

GB WR Allen Lazard - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 vs. Chicago Bears
Allen Lazard is back at practice and looks like he is on track to return to a Green Bay offense that struggled to do anything in the passing game with him sitting out Week 1. Assuming he suits up this week, Lazard should have no shortage of opportunity in a depth chart lacking established talent. In an exhibition of just how much the Packers passing game struggled against Minnesota, running back A.J. Dillon actually led the Packers with six targets in Week 1. Lazard looks poised to quickly take over that role upon his return as he at least has a track record of some production with Rodgers. Monitor the Green Bay injury report to make sure Lazard is healthy this week, but if he plays he makes a solid flex play based on projected role as the Packers look to bounce back against the Bears at home.

GB WR Allen Lazard - Week 1 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 @ Minnesota Vikings
Someone has to be the alpha receiver in Green Bay after Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling left this offseason, and at least for now it looks like Allen Lazard will get first crack at the role. The Packers have to make up for roughly half their targets in the passing game from last season, and Lazard should see a sizable portion of what was left behind. Lazard's 12% target share from last year is virtually certain to take a substantial leap in 2022, but what he does with those targets is to be determined. In Week 1, Lazard will face off with a soft Vikings secondary, a group that finished dead last in adjusted fantasy points allowed to WRs last year. With roles a bit more uncertain than usual in Green Bay, Lazard makes for an interesting flex play and potential WR2 just based on sheer volume potential.

GB WR Allen Lazard - 2022 Fantasy Football Outlook

2022 Fantasy Upside
Allen Lazard will step into a much larger role than he has ever held before in 2022 following the departure of Davante Adams and Marquez Valdes-Scantling from Green Bay this offseason. Those two players accounted for nearly half (48%) of Aaron Rodgers' targets last season. That massive target vacuum will have to be filled primarily by Lazard, rookie Christian Watson, and veteran journeyman Sammy Watkins. Lazard would appear to have a massive advantage in the target competition given his established history and rapport with Rodgers, who has never shied away from feeding trusted pass catchers. Lazard may not have a track record of being his team's top wideout, but his volume potential is massive in 2022 given the state of the Packers' offensive depth chart. Being the top target for Aaron Rodgers is always something that will attract attention in fantasy, and Lazard looks primed for that role this year. The pair already produced eight touchdowns last year with Lazard playing a part-time role. Lazard does not look like an exciting name to draft, but he has the potential to blow away his previous career-highs this year.

2022 Fantasy Downside
Just because Lazard is set up to take on a larger role in the absence of Adams and Valdes-Scantling, there is no guarantee he will be able to replicate their levels of production. Lazard is not nearly as physically talented as Adams and cannot compete with MVS as a straight-line deep threat. Lazard is coming off career best numbers across the board in 2021, but that only amounts to a 40-513-8 line over 15 games. The Packers also may adjust their offensive philosophy to a more run-based approach this year given the downgrades in their pass catching group during the offseason. Betting on Lazard to produce at the same level of Rodgers' previous top options will likely result in disappointment.

2022 Bottom Line
Lazard does not jump off the page from a statistical or talent standpoint, but his role is very valuable in that he will likely be the first read for Aaron Rodgers on many of Green Bay's passing plays this season. That fact alone makes Lazard worthy of Flex consideration in fantasy.

GB WR Allen Lazard - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Minnesota Vikings
The Green Bay Packers have relied heavily on Allen Lazard as a possession monster since the bye week, using his towering frame as a massive target in the end zone. Lazard's five targets in the red zone over the last three weeks are second only to star Davante Adams' eight, and he caught two of them for 13 yards and two scores. In fact, in that span of time, Lazard has been a critical part of the passing game all-around, averaging 5.3 targets per game. This week, our models project Lazard as a low-end WR4 for fantasy football, though a matchup with the Minnesota Vikings – who allow the second-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points (aFPA) to wide receivers – does allow for some additional upside.
