Andre Roberts is the No. 2 receiver, HC Ken Whisenhunt said.

But “everybody wants to talk about the No. 2 receiver and we don’t really get caught up in the No. 2. We run so many different packages where we use three receivers or even four receivers and there are a lot of times we tailor special packages to fit the individual strengths of the receivers. There could be different games where it is a different player because we feel that’s the best fit for what we are trying to get done.”

Fantasy Impact: 

Still, Roberts being the WR2 is a big deal, at least in PPR formats. He's a nice sleeper, especially with Kevin Kolb coming to the rescue at QB. The Cardinals let Steve Breaston walk and failed to land another impact WR in free agency, so Roberts has a good opportunity ahead of him.

The Arizona Cardinals expressed interest in free-agent wide receivers Braylon Edwards and Malcom Floyd, who ended up signing with other teams.

Steve Breaston, one of last year's starting receivers, signed with Kansas City, prompting speculation the Cardinals would make a move to replace him.

The team did, but coaches don't seem to view the position as the serious weakness critics do.

Andre Roberts is the starter opposite Larry Fitzgerald for now, with Early Doucet pushing him. Max Komar and Stephen Williams played a little last year as rookies, and DeMarco Sampson, a seventh-round pick this year, has looked good in camp.

Fantasy Impact: 

With Kevin Kolb at quarterback, whoever becomes Arizona's starter opposite Fitzgerald could be worth monitoring. The Arizona offense has gone from being a joke to being respectable.

The deal is done. Kevin Kolb will sign a five-year extension with the Cardinals for more than $63 million with over $20 million guaranteed. The Eagles get Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and a 2nd round pick.

Fantasy Impact: 

This is not unexpected, but with the QB market drying up, Larry Fitzgerald and his owners have to be breathing a sigh of relief. If Kolb is even mediocre, Fitzy should be a threat to break back into the top 5. The Cardinals invested a lot of money in their new, relatively unproven QB. As such, Kolb is a mid-range QB2 in fantasy drafts. With Steve Breaston's departure, Andre Roberts is a real threat to start at WR2 and is a sleeper in PPR formats.

Cardinals WR Steve Breaston is likely to end up as a free agent, and his return is cloudy. It could well depend on the level of interest Breaston has should he hit the open market. Breaston started last season as a top key target for the Cards, especially with Fitzgerald coming back from a knee injury. Then Breaston had minor knee surgery himself, and by the end of the season, his role was cut into by rookie Andre Roberts.

Roberts, in fact, came on so strong in the back half of last year, he has changed the dynamic of the wideout corps. The third-round pick struggled mightily in training camp and at the beginning of the season, but by the end showed he may indeed be the Cardinals’ future No. 2 receiver. Early Doucet has flashed every time he has played, but injuries have prevented any extended playing time – and the corresponding trust that he will be available enough.
