Chargers not optimistic RBs Melvin Gordon, Austin Ekeler play Week 15

The Chargers are not optimistic that running backs Melvin Gordon (knee) and Austin Ekeler (neck, concussion) will be ready for Thursday's huge AFC West matchup at Kansas City, HC Anthony Lynn told me.

Fantasy Impact:

The short week comes at a tough time for the Chargers. Jackson needs to be added if he happens to still be on your wire. He'll get a nice matchup and a potential big workload against the Chiefs, which could end up as a high scoring game. Newsome will likely get some work as well.

Chargers RB Austin Ekeler still dealing with a stinger

Yesterday, we wrote that Chargers running back Austin Ekeler aggravated a neck injury. Ekeler got banged up on an onside kick attempt late in the fourth quarter. It wasn’t certain on what the injury was at first, but it appears like it was the same stinger that limited him at a practice last month. He didn’t play on the team’s final offensive drive. Today, the status of Ekeler was updated, per ESPN’s Eric Williams.

According to Williams, Chargers announce Austin Ekeler was evaluated for a stinger neck injury and also evaluated for concussion in the tent on the field Sunday. Ekeler was cleared for a concussion and is not in concussion protocol. He is day to day.

Fantasy Impact:

Ekeler and Gordon both didn't practice on Monday leading up to Thursday night's game against the Chiefs. Gordon seems to have a better chance to play at this point, at least according to reports, but a lot still seems up in the air. Obviously if both can't suit up, Jackson would become the workhorse back, but this may not sort itself out until 90 minutes before the game.

After recently dealing with stingers, Chargers’ RB Austin Ekeler aggravated the injury today and will require further testing, per source.

Fantasy Impact:

With a game Thursday night vs. the Chiefs, the short week will make it tough for Ekeler to be ready, Schefter went on to say. Gordon could very well be back for this game, keeping Jackson as the RB2. However with Gordon back, Jackson's overall value probably takes a hit. That said, he had nine total touches for just 35 yards in Week 14 which wasn't want owners were hoping for when grabbing him off the wire.

Chargers RB Austin Ekeler (ankle) took full practice reps all week. He was removed from the injury report so he’s good to go for Week 14. He’ll likely split time with Justin Jackson, but both are playable since the matchup is so favorable.
