SD RB Branden Oliver - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 - Oliver vs. Kansas City

Brendan Oliver rushed 13 times for 53 yards last week as the Bolts had to come back to knock off the 49ers. Oliver added three catches for 28 yards.

Even with Ryan Mathews out, Oliver was a bit of a risk in a tough matchup. This week, the matchup is a little easier as the Chiefs are around the middle of the pack in allowing fantasy points to RBs. When these teams met back in Week 7, it was the start of Oliver's fantasy performance downfall so to speak. He was coming off two, 100-plus yard rushing games but only managed at 15-67-0 line with two catches. Mathews could very well be back this week which will likely limit Oliver's value.

SD RB Branden Oliver - Week 16, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 - Oliver vs. San Francisco

Branden Oliver carried 12 times for 26 yards last week and added four catches for 44 yards. The 16 touches is the most since Week 8 when he received 20 against the Broncos.

With Ryan Mathews highly unlikely to play in Week 16, Oliver seems poised to get another bump in work. We think he'll end up getting a good portion of the carries, while Donald Brown will be more involved in the passing game. Either way, Oliver hasn't shown a whole lot since that Week 8 game and he would be tough to trust even with a decent workload. The 49ers are 18th in allowing fantasy points to RBs, so they have dropped a little in the matchup rankings since the middle of the season. But this will still be a tough matchup on the road for those who want to play Oliver.

SD RB Branden Oliver - Week 15, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 - Oliver vs. Denver
Brandon Oliver had just three carries for one yard in Week 14. He was targeted twice. Oliver has had just four total touches the last two weeks and this week's matchup isn't a great one as Denver is only second in allowing fantasy points to RBs. Keep an eye on Ryan Mathews and a possible right leg injury. Oliver could see some more work in this contest, but is still too risky of a play and just hasn't been involved in the passing game like we expected.

SD RB Branden Oliver - Week 14, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 - Oliver vs. New England
Branden Oliver carried just one time for seven yards and wasn't targeted in the passing game last week. Outside of one week, Oliver hasn't had more than one reception in three of his last four games, so a Danny Woodhead-type role really hasn't been the case like we hoped. As a result, Oliver won't have much fantasy value and is a risky play any week.

SD RB Branden Oliver - Week 13, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 - Oliver vs. Baltimore

Branden Oliver had ten touches last week, collecting six carries for 17 yards and adding four catches for 23 yards. These are a bit closer to the Danny Woodhead-like numbers we expected to see after Ryan Mathews came back into the fold.

It's a tough matchup this week for Chargers running backs, as the Ravens are near the top of the league in allowing fantasy points to RBs. Oliver could certainly find himself involved in the passing game, but he's a risky play outside of deep PPR leagues.

SD RB Branden Oliver - Week 12, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 - Oliver vs. St. Louis
Branden Oliver ended up with 13 carries last week for 36 yards but it was Ryan Mathews who had 70 yards on 16 carries. We thought Oliver might be more involved in the passing game, but he collected just one catch on three targets. Now that Mathews is back, we may be able to expect more receptions from Oliver going forward which should help his value in PPR leagues, but he's a desperation play at this point.

SD RB Branden Oliver - Week 11, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 - Oliver vs. Oakland

Brenden Oliver carried 13 times for just 19 yards back in Week 9. He added one catch for seven yards.

Oliver gets a great matchup this week against the Raiders who are just 31st in allowing fantasy points to RBs. The bad news for Oliver is he's going to give up some carries to Ryan Mathews who returns to action this week for the first time since Week 2. Both Oliver and Mathews fall in the flex range this week and it's very possible Oliver moves to a Danny Woodhead-like role once Mathews is healthy enough to get a bigger number of carries. It's a situation to monitor this week to get a feel for how SD is going to use their backs.
