Scouting report

NE RB Brandon Bolden - Week 19, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19 vs Kansas City
With all the injuries to Patriots RBs in 2015, Brandon Bolden was asked to do a little more work in the backfield than usual. Bolden put up a combined 480-2 line on the season. Receiving between 11 and 16 touches per game over the last four weeks, it's not unreasonable Bolden gets some more work this weekend. We're guessing that the Patriots get Steven Jackson more involved, allowing Bolden to focus more on Special Teams again, but it's just a guess. In a tough matchup against the Chiefs who were the season's fourth ranked aFPA to RBs, people hopefully can find better options than Bolden this weekend, but we do have him ranked as mid-range RB2.

NE RB Brandon Bolden - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Miami
In Week 16, Brandon Bolden played 48% of the team's snaps, carrying the ball nine times for a 9-30 line on the day. Bolden is averaging 3.26 ypc on the season, and is just not a great option as a go-to running back. While he remains a desperation RB4 or RB5 play until another RB can absorb his snaps and carries, even in a great matchup versus the most generous aFPA matchup to opposing RBs, we do not recommend starting Bolden.

NE RB Brandon Bolden - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at New York Jets
Brandon Bolden's Week 15 line of 10-36 (adding 2-18 in the passing game) may help set Week 16 expectations. He may figure to see a similar workload with the injuries surrounding him, but his inefficiency as a runner limits his fantasy production far more often than not. Averaging just over three YPC on the season, Bolden makes a desperation play only and is a fringe RB4 or weak RB5, depending on your league size.

NE RB Brandon Bolden - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs Tennessee
In relief of the injured RB LaGarratte Blount, Brandon Bolden put up a 16-51 line in Week 14. While his 3.19 YPC mark last week is indicative of his season 3.14 YPC, Bolden does figure to get some playing time and usage this weekend. The Patriots backfield has almost run out of healthy bodies, and Bolden is one of the few remaining.

While Bolden is, at best, a RB3 or weak flex option in standard leagues, he may be a needed "plug and play" waiver wire option for desperate owners. He gets a PPR downgrade into the RB4 conversation.

NE RB Brandon Bolden - Week 13, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs Philadelphia
With a long touchdown reception in Week 12, Brandon Bolden put up a rare fantasy relevant day, with 95 total yards and a touchdown. His rushing line of 4-11 should be noted as more indicative of his usual performance, though. With at least four touches in three of the last four weeks, Bolden may figure to be an outside shot at fantasy points, but only for desperate owners in deep leagues.

NE RB Brandon Bolden - Week 1, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1 vs Pittsburgh
HC Bill Belichick is famous for shuffling RBs around, leaving fantasy owners frustrated. In Week 1 of the 2015 season, those in fantasy circles have never been more unsure. We may have Bolden projected to lead this backfield in fantasy points in Week 1, but that's more by default than anything. He is the team's veteran at the position, though his performances are generally underwhelming in fantasy.

We project Bolden as a RB4 this week, even in 12-team leagues, and suggest not starting any Patriots RB until we have more clarity, or LaGarrette Blount returns.

NE RB Brandon Bolden - Week 17, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs Bills
With an unusually strong (for Bolden) line of 5-32 in Week 16, Bolden raised his YPR on the season to just over 3.1. With the Patriots having clinched the #1 seed already, they may rest some starters after a quarter or two. It's not unreasonable to think we may see some extended Bolden action this weekend. However, he's not someone you want in your lineups, regardless of usage.
