In his quest to excel in the West Coast offense, Browns quarterback Colt McCoy couldn't think of anyone better to help teach it to him this off-season than future Hall of Famer Brett Favre.

McCoy called Favre and asked if he could come to his hometown in Hattiesburg, Miss., to work with him on the precision scheme, one that Favre ran for 20 years. Favre obliged, and the two spent about four days together pouring over the offense and throwing passes.

"Since I couldn't get coached, it was a great opportunity to pick the brains of a guy who's played in this system for 20 years," McCoy said through a team spokesperson. "It was a chance for me to get a lot of questions answered. We worked on footwork, progressions, reads and things like that. It was definitely a positive trip."

Browns quarterback Colt McCoy spent a couple of days during the NFL's lockout learning the West Coast offense from Brett Favre, McCoy confirmed today through a team spokesman.

McCoy reached out to Favre, who learned the West Coast system from Browns President Mike Holmgren during their days together with the Green Bay Packers, for guidance. He visited Favre's home in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.

"Since I couldn't get coached, it was a great opportunity to pick the brain of a guy who’s played in the system for 20 years," McCoy said through the spokesman. "It was a chance for me to get a lot of questions answered. We worked on footwork, progressions, reads and things like that. It was definitely a positive trip."

"I don't have that feeling, that chip on my shoulder," said Brett Favre, the NFL's all-time leader in numerous passing categories. "I mean, I could easily talk myself into that chip on my shoulder like, 'Hey everybody hates you,' ... I could motivate myself."

But, the 41-year-old quarterback went on to say, motivating himself has become more difficult as he ages.

Favre admitted that his career probably should have ended after what he called a "storybook" 2009 season, when he led the Vikings to the NFC Championship Game with his best statistical performance. But Favre said he believed he owed the team one more year after such a run.

From what SI's Peter King is hearing, Brett Favre is being slightly tempted about playing football again:

When I say slightly, I mean slightly. I don't think any team is going to come after him now, and I don't think he's going to pursue anything. But I do think if a starter gets hurt or stinks, and the coach has no faith in the backup, Favre is going to get a call. Depending on the team, he might consider returning.
