Scouting report

PHI QB Carson Wentz - Week 12, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 vs. Green Bay
Carson Wentz threw for 218 yards and two TDs in a tough matchup on the road at Seattle. He also threw two INTs, giving him a total of 11 TD and seven INTs this season.

Wentz and the Eagles want to be a run-first team but the rookie QB has attempted over 43 passes in three of the team's last four games, mostly because of playing from behind in a few of those contests. This week, Wentz gets the Packers at home on Monday night. It's a nice matchup for Wentz as the Packers are 22nd in allowing fantasy points to QBs and are falling fast after getting beaten up on defense by the Titans and Redskins. Wentz comes in 19th on our QB list this week making him a QB2 option. Keep in mind, he's very limited with his group of WRs who continue to struggle and drop passes.

PHI QB Carson Wentz - Week 11, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 11 at Seattle
In what was a great matchup against the Falcons at home, Carson Wentz threw for just 231 yards last week with no TDs or no INTs. It was obvious this was going to be a run-first attack for the Eagles who pounded the ball with Ryan Mathews.

This week, Wentz is best left on benches as he goes on the road to take on the Seahawks, who are seventh in allowing fantasy points to QBs. Wentz is ranked just 27th on our list, one spot ahead of Jared Goff who is last and making his first NFL start. Wentz just isn't a good option this week, even in two-QB leagues.

PHI QB Carson Wentz - Week 10, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 10 vs. Atlanta
The good news for Carson Wentz was he threw for a career-high 364 yards last week against the Giants. The bad news was no TDs and two interceptions. It was just Wentz's second 300-plus yard game of the season.

After dinking and dunking much of the prior four weeks, the Eagles aired it out a bit last week which provided a big boost to Wentz's yards. Thanks to two early INTs, the team fell behind early and had a lot of catching up to do. This week, it's a nice matchup for Wentz is ranked as a lower-end QB2 this week. The Falcons are 30th in allowing fantasy points to QBs but the Eagles want to run the ball more and three a little less. Wentz has averaged 34 attempts this season, which includes 43 and 47 the last two weeks. Wentz still isn't a safe play for 10 or 12 team, one-QB leagues.

PHI QB Carson Wentz - Week 9, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at New York Giants
Carson Wentz threw for 202 yards and a TD last week against Dallas. For the most part, it was short passes has he averaged just 4.70 YPA. The TD was his ninth of the season.

In Week 7, Wentz had 4.93 YPA, so the offense is really relying on the short passing game, likely due to a group of WRs who just can't catches passes or run routes. This week, it's again a very tough matchup as the Giants are just fourth in allowing fantasy points to QBs. Much of the same seems to be in the forecast in terms of the passing game, and that makes Wentz a very risky play. Wentz sits down near the very bottom of our QB list and just isn't a great option.

PHI QB Carson Wentz - Week 8, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 at Dallas
Carson Wentz threw for 138 yards and a TD last week along with two interceptions. He now has eight TDs and three INTs for the season.

It wasn't a good matchup against the Vikings last week, and Wentz was way down our list as a result. Overall, it was a rough start for Wentz, but he did show a little something on a key drive that produced a TD and eventually the win. This week, it's the Cowboys on the road on Sunday night. It's a much better matchup, but Wentz remains down our list and just isn't a great fantasy option. He has just one game over 300 yards (301) and is averaging just over 170 yards a game in the other five contests.

PHI QB Carson Wentz - Week 7, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs. Minnesota
Carson Wentz completed just 11 passes last week for 179 yards and no TDs. He took a lot of heat for a bad game, but the loss of RT Lane Johnson was a big factor in this game, as Wentz was rushed and sacked five times.

Even if the Eagles can figure out their RT problem, this is a tough matchup against the Vikings, who are third in allowing fantasy points to QBs. Wentz is way down our list and probably isn't a great option this week.

PHI QB Carson Wentz - Week 6, 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Washington
Carson Wentz continued to play pretty well for the Eagles despite a loss in Week 5. Wentz didn't rack up the yards, but did add two more TDs along with his first INT of the year. He finished with 238 yards and now has 7 TDs on the season.

Wentz is averaging just 251 yards so far this year as the Birds try to use the run game to take pressure off their rookie QB. Wentz comes in 18th this week in an average matchup against the Redskins who are much worse against the run. It's likely owners can expect much of the same for Week 6 - about 250 yards and a TD or two making him a lower end QB2 option. The Redskins are 16th in allowing fantasy points to QBs and the Birds will continue to use their four options at RB to help the offense, all while capping Wentz's fantasy potential for now.
