Scouting report

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 10, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

The last time Kansas City played Denver back in Week 2, Charcandrick West was an unknown player. Since then, a season-ending injury to Jamaal Charles has put West in a prime role. West was one of many Chiefs who thrived in their last game against the Lions, as he scored a touchdown and amassed 122 total yards.

It will not be easy for West against Denver’s strong run defense. However, Charles was able to exploit them for 127 total yards and a touchdown earlier in the season and other backs such as Adrian Peterson and Frank Gore have been able to bust through the Broncos and find some success. West can be plugged into your lineup as an RB2.

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 8, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Detroit

After a disappointing showing in Week 6, expectations were fairly low for Charcandrick West in Week 7, especially since he was facing a potent Pittsburgh run defense that had allowed only one rushing touchdown. But West was a smashing success against the Steelers, racking up 129 yards and a touchdown. He received 22 carries while backups Knile Davis and Spencer Ware were pretty much nowhere to be found.

To say Detroit’s run defense has been leaky would be an understatement. The Lions have given up 10 rushing touchdowns while opponents are averaging 123.4 yards per game. At a minimum, West is a solid starter this week, but he will have the upside of a RB1.

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 7, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 vs Pittsburgh
After Jamaal Charles was lost for the season, the hype machine was running around the clock for young Charcandrick West, who became one of the most sought after free agents in recent memory. Many expected the former Abilene Christian product would enjoy success against a Minnesota defense that had struggled at times to stop the run. Instead, West was a bust. He totaled just 42 yards and lost a fumble.

Can Charcandrick rebound against the Steelers? Only one player has run for a touchdown against Pittsburgh in 2015, and amazingly, that player was Baltimore wide receiver Michael Campanaro. On average, the Steelers are keeping opponents under 100 yards per game. West will have a daunting task ahead of him, but he may gather enough volume to venture into low-end RB2 territory.

KC RB Charcandrick West - Week 6, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at Minnesota

As Elton John once sang, “I guess that’s why they call it the blues.” The Chiefs and the fantasy community were deflated by the loss of Jamaal Charles to a season-ending injury on Sunday. Once the shock wore off, thoughts turned to who would wear Jamaal’s hard-to-fill shoes in the Kansas City backfield. Currently, Charcandrick West looks most likely to fill the void.

Who is Charcandrick West? He played his college ball at Abilene Christian in Texas, a school that in recent years sent Bernard Scott and Daryl Richardson to the NFL. At 5’10” and 205 pounds, he is a sturdy speedster. Kansas City head coach Andy Reid indicated West had a similar style to Charles. While all sounds promising, West may have a very short window to impress, as Knile Davis will also see playing time and has filled in nicely for Charles in recent seasons. Charcandrick could generate immediate production on Sunday, as the Vikings are giving up 125.5 rushing yards per game. In their most recent contest, Minnesota allowed a long touchdown run to Denver’s Ronnie Hillman. It remains to be seen how West will fare, but owners should not be scared to start him as a RB2 this weekend.
