Scouting report

BUF TE Charles Clay - Week 18 Fantasy Football Outlook

Wild Card Round at Jacksonville Jaguars

Charles Clay had 6 receptions for 64 yards in the regular season finale. He has averaged 9 targets per game over the last three weeks. It won't be easy against the Jags, who ended the season ranked No. 1 in aFPA versus tight ends.

Still, Clay has some value even with a tough matchup. He ranks as the fourth-best tight end for Wild Card weekend. Use him in your fantasy playoff lineup.

BUF TE Charles Clay - Week 17 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 at Miami Dolphins

Charles Clay has been targeted 19 times over the last two games, including 9 times against Miami two weeks ago. The production hasn't been great, but the targets show he is part of the gameplan. He is nursing a bad knee so health is an issue but with a playoff spot possibly on the line, we expect him to play.

The Dolphins are ranked dead last in aFPA to tight ends, so the matchup heavily favors Clay. Start Clay as a low-end TE1 for Week 17 and hope the targets remain high.

BUF TE Charles Clay - Week 16 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at New England Patriots

Charles Clay had one of his more impactful games for Buffalo last week, being targeted 9 times, which tied a season-high, and he caught 5 passes for 68 yards. Clay still only has 2 touchdowns on the season, the last coming in Week 3. He is also listed a questionable for the week with a knee injury but should play.

In the first meeting with the Patriots earlier this month, Clay had 3 catches for 20 yards. New England is ranked first in aFPA to tight ends. Despite the involvement last week, the matchup isn't great, so keep Clay on the bench this Sunday as a high-end TE2.

BUF TE Charles Clay - Week 15 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 vs. Miami Dolphins

Charles Clay's best performance over the past month was 4 receptions for 60 yards. That seems to be his ceiling. Add the fact he has not scored a touchdown since Week 3.

Clay will face the Dolphins this week, who are ranked 29th in aFPA to tight ends. Even with the great matchup against Miami, the production has not been there, plus Clay is not healthy right now. Clay ranks as a high-end TE2 but not high enough to earn a fantasy start in Week 15.

BUF TE Charles Clay - Week 14 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Indianapolis Colts

Consistency has been the word for Charles Clay the past several weeks. Since his return in Week 10, Clay has been targeted an average of 3.5 times. Of course, owners would like to see more, but at least you know what you're getting.

It's a great matchup for Clay this week, as he will face a Colts defense ranked 24th in aFPA to tight ends. However, the lack of targets and the possibility of playing without Tyrod Taylor makes Clay an iffy play for Week 14. Keep him on the bench.

BUF TE Charles Clay - Week 13 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 13 vs. New England Patriots

Charles Clay continues to struggle with injuries, although he was active last Sunday and caught 4 passes for 60 yards. He has been limited in practice the past couple weeks, but the Bills are being cautious. He will play Sunday.

Clay will face the Patriots, who are ranked 13th in aFPA to tight ends. Even with the neutral matchup, we are still worried about Clay's overall health and how it could limit him. Keep Clay on the bench as a TE2 for Week 13.

BUF TE Charles Clay - Week 12 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 12 at Kansas City Chiefs

Charles Clay is not healthy and while he will probably play this week, this is a factor in his performance. He has seen only 7 targets the last two games since returning from injury, but he has not been practicing since his return.

Clay will face the Chiefs, who are ranked 10th in aFPA to tight ends. The Bills offense has struggled and Clay has not had impactful numbers since he returned to the lineup. Even if some of the Bills receivers sit out with injuries, Clay isn't a good play for Week 12. Keep him on the bench.
