Scouting report

MIA TE Charles Clay - Week 8, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Clay - Week 8 vs. Jacksonville
Charles Clay set a season high in yards last week with 58. He also caught his first touchdown of the season. It's nice to see Clay involved again, but he hasn't been a reliable option this year. Unless he becomes more consistent, he's not worth much more than a low TE2.

MIA TE Charles Clay - Week 7, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Clay - Week 7 vs. Chicago
Charles Clay caught three passes for 35 yards on five targets against Green Bay last week. His 35 yards were a new season high for him. That stat should tell you just how poor of a season Clay is having. He still doesn't have a touchdown on the season and he's questionable to play on Sunday with a knee injury. He was limited at practice Thursday. He's not worth a look this week against Chicago.

MIA TE Charles Clay - Week 6, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Clay - Week 6 vs. Green Bay

Charles Clay isn't having a great year. He's currently on pace for a 56-444-0 season. He has less than 35 receiving yards in every game and hasn't caught a touchdown. His only decent game was a seven catch effort against Buffalo, but he was only valuable in PPR formats.

He's a low TE2 option.

MIA TE Charles Clay - Week 4, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Clay - Week 4 vs. Oakland Raiders
Charles Clay has been a disappointment so far this season. After averaging 47 yards per game in 2013, Clay has a season high of only 31 yards. He simply isn't putting up enough production to be considered a good start.

MIA TE Charles Clay - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Clay - Week 3 vs. Kansas City

Charles Clay had a downer Week 1 performance when he caught just two passes for 27 yards. In Week 2 he caught a lot more passes (7), but he only finished with 31 yards. His 4.4 yards per catch is simply not enough.

He's been held without a touchdown so far this season, but that could change this week. The Chiefs have allowed a league-high three touchdowns to tight ends this season. Having said that, the Chiefs gave up the third-fewest fantasy points to TEs last season. So proceed with caution.

Clay should be viewed as a low TE2 option this week against K.C.

MIA TE Charles Clay - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Clay - Week 2 vs. Buffalo

Charles Clay was targeted six times in Week 1 (only Mike Wallace was targeted more), but only finished with two receptions for 27 yards. The Dolphins' primary focus against New England was running the football. Wallace was the only Dolphins receiver who had success.

Clay has a lot of talent and his six targets are encouraging. He's facing a Buffalo defense that has allowed an opposing tight end to score a TD in five of the past seven games.

Clay should be viewed as a low-end TE1 option on Sunday.

MIA TE Charles Clay - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Charles Clay - Week 1 vs. New England

Charles Clay was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice with a knee injury. According to ESPN's James Walker, Clay is expected to play in Week 1 barring any setbacks.

Last season the Patriots recognized Clay's talent and had their best cover man, Aqib Talib, line up against him on most plays. In that matchup Clay caught just one pass for six yards on two targets.

Clay, who led Miami in touchdown receptions last season, is still a talented enough player to be considered as a low TE1 option this week.
