Jets TE Chris Herndon (ribs) heading to IR

New York Jets tight end Chris Herndon made his 2019 debut on Sunday against the New York Giants, but it will be the only game he will play in this season. On Tuesday, the team made the decision to place their tight end on injured reserve after he fractured a rib during the Jets' 34-27 win over the cross-town rival Giants in Week 10.

Fantasy Impact: 

This doesn't come as a surprise after yesterday's report that Herndon was going to miss significant time because of a rib injury. It's obviously a disappointing ending to his 2019 season. Griffin takes over at the position and has at least played well as of late.

Chris Herndon is out an extended amount of time with a fractured rib, per Adam Gase.

Fantasy Impact: 

So many high expectations for Herndon as a TE stash, and now he just seems like a wasted roster spot. Herndon had just one catch this year for seven yards, and with no real timetable, he can probably safely be dropped. Griffin takes back over at the position and heading into Week 10 had 10 catches for 116 yards the previous two weeks, and that included two touchdowns as well.

Jets TE Ryan Griffin (ankle) took full practice reps again Friday. Griffin is good to go. If Chris Herndon is out, Griffin will be streamable again.

Chris Herndon on track to make season debut in Week 10

Jets TE Chris Herndon (hamstring) was listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday and Thursday, but the belief is he will make his season debut Sunday against the Giants.

Fantasy Impact: 

Herndon was on the active roster, but did not play, in Week 9. That was still a positive sign after he was thought to be out against the Dolphins. Herndon was also limited last week in practice but had been improving in his recovery. At this point, any help is good help for what has been an awful Jets offense. And with six teams on a bye, Herndon may be worth a look as a streaming option because somebody has to catch the ball for the Jets, even with the poor performances from Sam Darnold.
