The Browns will release tailback Chris Ogbonnaya, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer.

A fifth-year pro, the 28-year-old Ogbonnaya has appeared in 42 regular season games since joining Cleveland in 2011, rushing for 604 yards on 130 carries (4.6 yards per rush) and catching 95 passes for 695 yards and two TDs (7.3 yards per catch). Ogbonnaya (6-0, 225) has played fullback and tailback and can contribute in the passing game, all of which could help him garner interest elsewhere.

Fantasy Impact: 

With Ogbonnaya and Dion Lewis set to be released, the Browns could be ready to keep rookie Isaiah Crowell as their third back behind Ben Tate and Terrance West.

Browns running back Dion Lewis battled back from a broken leg that cost him all of 2013 only to be let go by the Browns Saturday on final cut-down day, a league source told Cleveland.com.

It means that rookie running back Isaiah Crowell from Alabama State might be safe in the battle for the third or fourth running back spot behind Ben Tate and Terrance West.

The Browns also still have Chris Ogbonnaya on the roster, and he has the versatility to play fullback as well.

Running back Ben Tate has been participating in individual drills during the first two days of minicamp, but when it comes to 11-on-11 drills, Terrance West has been getting reps with the first team.

Last season, Tate battled through four cracked ribs much of the season to rush for 771 yards and four TDs in 14 games, including seven starts.

West has shown power through the first level and quickness when eluding defenders. The Townson product is expected to play a major role for the Browns offensively.

Chris Ogbonnaya has also taken reps with the first team.

Fantasy Impact: 

We'll see how much first team work West gets once Tate returns, but he's one reason why we're not all that crazy about Tate's upside heading into 2014. Tate should be a decent RB2, but he's going to play for a mediocre offense, he's been injury prone, and he has a talented third round pick breathing down his neck.

Browns RB Willis McGahee (concussion, knee, out) missed practice all week and is out for Week 15. Chris Ogbonnaya and Fozzy Whittaker will pick up the slack. We expect Ogbonnaya to lead the backfield in touches against a very shaky Bears rush defense, making him a Week 15 Sneaky Start. Whittaker could surprise as well.
