Marshawn Lynch not expected to practice this week

Marshawn Lynch will not return to practice for the Seattle Seahawks this week, coach Pete Carroll said during his weekly Monday radio show on ESPN 710 Seattle.

So that means the Seahawks will again play Sunday against St. Louis without Lynch, and presumably with the same tailback trio as Sunday against Cleveland, when Christine Michael emerged getting most of the carries in a 30-13 win over the Browns.

Asked if Lynch would practice this week, Carroll said “uh no. I don’t think that’s what’s going on.’’

Lynch is battling to get back from abdominal surgery he had on Nov. 25 and has not played since Nov. 15 against Arizona.

Carroll said Lynch is in “a race against time right now.. I know he’s going for it. That’s what’s important.’’

Fantasy Impact: 

Christine Michael and Bryce Brown will likely split up the workload with Fred Jackson factoring in as well, especially on third down. The team seemed to trust Michael a little more later in the game, although Michael and Brown split snaps pretty evenly (24-22). Bbased on Michael getting more carries and having them occur later in the game, Michael seems a bit safer of a play against the Rams this week.

Breaking down the Seattle run game in Week 15

The Seahawks went into Sunday's game against the Cleveland Browns with two running backs who weren't even on the roster the previous week.

Even without Thomas Rawls and Marshawn Lynch, they were able to run the ball effectively with Christine Michael and Bryce Brown. Derrick Coleman got five carries (10 yards) on the first drive, but did not touch the ball after that.

Instead, it was Michael and Brown combining for 25 carries. Michael played on 24 snaps and Brown 22.

Fantasy Impact: 

Michael led the team with 16 carries for 84 yards (5.3 YPC). It's telling that 11 of those attempts came in the second half. Clearly, the coaches were liking what they saw from Michael and wanted to give him more opportunities, the story said. But something to keep in mind is Brown (9-43-0) had not carried the ball in an NFL game in over a year. Brown said he felt anxious beforehand but got more comfortable as the game went on, the story pointed out. Based on Week 15, Michael seems to be the safer play heading into Week 16.

Derrick Coleman is used to clearing the way for others to gain the running-back glory with the Seahawks.

But this week, the spotlight could fall on him and maybe Bryce Brown and Christine Michael, all suddenly being asked to fill in for the injured Marshawn Lynch and Thomas Rawls as Seattle’s tailback.

On Friday as he spoke with a few reporters, Coleman said he’s confident the job can get done without Lynch and Rawls.

“We are not going to be the weakest link,’’ Coleman said, mentioning the likes of Michael and Brown. “We are going to go out there and do our job and do what we can do.’’

Fantasy Impact: 

The story said HC Pete Carroll has sounded enamored with Coleman this week, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he has a big role against the Browns. This situation is very much up in the air as Brown, Fred Jackson and Michael will likely all be involved in some capacity as well, making all of them risky fantasy plays.
