Fantasy Upside
According to the Rookie Scouting Portfolio, C.J. Fiedorowicz has the height, muscle and bulk of an inline NFL tight end and the basic skills as a pass catcher to help a team that uses the position as both blocker and receiver in the short zones of the field. With the need to complement starter Garrett Graham, Fiedorowicz seems like an ideal fit. According to ESPN.com's Tania Ganguli, Fiedorowicz "can do everything. Zero problems catching the ball." Dave Zangaro of CSNHouston.com chimed in by suggesting that while Ryan Griffin had a nice rookie season last year, "it's pretty easy to see the way the team thinks about Fiedorowicz. ... He already seems like the tight end who will be on the other side of Graham in two-tight end sets."
Fantasy Downside
We don't have a ton of clarity on Houston's offense under new HC Bill O'Brien. His background in New England points to the potential for heavy usage of the tight ends, but do the Texans have the firepower at quarterback to make a TE2 fantasy relevant? Seems unlikely.
Bottom Line
Dynasty owners might want to take note of Fiedorowicz, who could emerge as a legitimate contributor in time (assuming the Texans will improve under O'Brien). But his greatest fantasy impact this season might be nibbling sufficiently into Graham's production to be irritating.
