Fantasy Upside
The rookie from Indiana is a big target at 6’2” and 215 pounds and according to OC Adam Gase he plays his size. Cody Latimer caught a pass in all 32 games as a Hoosier and averaged 91.3 yards per game in ’13. The speedster (4.44 40-yard dash) has impressed the Broncos with not only his receiving skills, but also his blocking ability. He is a precise route runner and should challenge Wes Welker for playing time as the season progresses.
Fantasy Downside
While he looks to be completely recovered, Latimer had surgery Jan. 19 to repair a fractured fifth metatarsal in his left foot. He will be the No. 4 or 5 WR heading in to the regular season, but will compete with Emmanuel Sanders and Welker for snaps in the three-WR formation.
Bottom Line
It may take a few games or maybe even until the second half of the season, but Cody will make an impact for the Broncos. While he won’t be rushed into action, Latimer is very skilled and will become a force in the NFL before long. With his size and competitiveness to battle for the ball in contested situations, he will become a prime option in the red-zone. In regular leagues he’s not deserving of being drafted, but in keepers Latimer will be a player you want to hold on to, especially if Peyton Manning keeps playing in Denver.
