Fantasy Upside
Dak Prescott narrowly missed winning the MVP award last season, thanks in large part to a Week 14 offensive collapse in which he managed only 134 yards passing. Outside of that performance, things were quite smooth in real life and fantasy. Prescott finished in the top 10 at the position for the fourth time in his career, putting together 4,500+ yards and 36 touchdowns while registering the second-lowest turnover-worthy play rate (2.0%) in the league. The receiving corps isn't necessarily strong behind stud WR CeeDee Lamb, but that didn't seem to make much of a difference last season, and it shouldn't keep him out of the conversation for a top-7 finish in 2024.
Fantasy Downside
Since his stretch between 2016-18, when he scored six rushing touchdowns in each season, Prescott hasn't offered much with his legs in the following five campaigns. Without a 5,000-yard, 40-touchdown performance, this puts a repeat of his top-5 finish in '23 into question, no matter how efficient he might be. Though CeeDee Lamb has emerged as one of the best wide receivers in the league, and Jake Ferguson is a very serviceable tight end option, the depth of his pass-catchers is suspect. Former third-round selection Jalen Tolbert has 24 receptions through his first two years in the league, and the team didn't address the situation until the sixth round, with Ryan Flournoy. The lack of options behind Lamb and the aging Brandin Cooks could limit Prescott's explosive performances.
2024 Bottom Line
As one of the best pure pocket passers in the game, Prescott has one of the safest floors in all of fantasy football. That is solidified by the Cowboys' pass-heavy approach, which should continue after the team essentially went Zero RB this offseason. As long as Lamb continues his elite play, there's no reason to fade Prescott as a locked-in QB1.
