DET TE Darren Fells - Week 9 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 9 at Green Bay Packers

Even with Matthew Stafford throwing for over 400 yards versus the Steelers last week, Darren Fells was held to only a 12-yard catch. He was targeted a couple times in the red zone, but Stafford was unable to connect with him for a TD. Stafford completed 27 passes to nine different targets in the loss, so it was surprising not to see a better performance from Fells. He remains a TE2 option.

DET TE Darren Fells - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Two weeks ago in the loss to the Saints, Eric Ebron was targeted only 9 times, despite Matthew Stafford airing it out 52 times. He collected just a 9-yard reception and has become a ghost in the Lions passing game. In the previous four contests, Ebron has totaled 6 grabs for 51 yards and no TDs. Darren Fells has become the better option for both Stafford and fantasy owners.

DET TE Darren Fells - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 at New Orleans Saints

Matthew Stafford found Darren Fells for two fourth-quarter scores last week, but it wasn't enough, as the Lions fell to the Panthers. As Eric Ebron continues to regress, Fells has emerged the past two weeks. Prior to the two-touchdown performance versus Carolina, he caught 4 passes for 40 yards the week before at Minnesota. If Stafford is healthy enough to go on Sunday in New Orleans, the game could see a lot of points. Fells is still only worthy of a TE2 play, though.

ARI TE Darren Fells - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
HC Bruce Arians is keen on tall, athletic tight ends. But even though he likes the basketball-player body types, they must be able to block as well as they can catch. That's something Darren Fells learned early in his career and it's something that resulted in him leading all the team's tight ends in receiving last season with 21 catches for 311 yards and three touchdowns while starting 12 of the 14 games he played.

Fantasy Downside
The Cardinals don't make heavy use of the tight end in their passing attack and in addition to Fells, Jermaine Gresham, Troy Niklas and perhaps Ifeanyi Momah could all be vying for snaps.

2016 Bottom Line
While Fells has made the transition from basketball player to football player quite quickly, none of the Cardinals tight ends are worth an investment in redraft leagues. Keep an eye out to see if one emerges as a viable bye-week fill in or cheap DFS option as the season progresses.

ARI TE Darren Fells - Week 20, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

NFC Championship at Carolina

Darren Fells had two catches for 14 yards against the Packers last week, and he continues to be an afterthought in the Arizona offense. The Cardinals haven’t featured the tight end position all year, and against the Panthers this week, it would be a surprise to see them change their strategy. Fells is technically the starter, giving him a little bit of fantasy value, but in most leagues, if you’re not springing for one of the top two tight ends this week, you’re going to be in trouble at the position. We have Fells ranked last out of the four starting tight ends this week.

ARI TE Darren Fells - Week 19, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19 vs. Green Bay
Darren Fells was a quality starting tight end this season for the Cardinals, but didn’t make any kind of fantasy impact because of the lack of usage for the position in the passing game under Bruce Arians. Fells will start this weekend against the Packers, but it’s unlikely that his usage will change this week and despite Jordan Reed crushing Green Bay last weekend, Fells is ranked dead last out of the eight starting tight ends in the Divisional round. Fantasy owners should have better options available.

ARI TE Darren Fells - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 vs. Green Bay
Darren Fells has outplayed the other tight ends in Arizona all season, and he had three catches and 54 yards last week against the Eagles. However, the Cardinal offense still doesn’t utilize the tight end position enough to make Fells a worthwhile fantasy option in most leagues. Fells should remain on waivers this week against Green Bay, as there are simply too many excellent receivers in Arizona to think that Fells will get enough looks to be fantasy relevant.
