Dallas wide receiver Dez Bryant will undergo an MRI after suffering a knee injury during practice Monday, according to the team’s web site.

With No. 1 wideout Miles Austin sidelined for the rest of the preseason with a hamstring injury that’s already kept him out of most of camp and the first two exhibition games, the Cowboys can ill afford to lose Bryant.

Austin is expected to be ready for the Sept. 5 season opener at the New York Giants, but his long layoff could lead to timing issues with quarterback Tony Romo.

Everyone knows that Jason Witten, Miles Austin and Dez Bryant will be the top three options on the Cowboys, not necessarily in that order. Don’t be surprised if running back DeMarco Murray catches more passes than whoever ends up claiming the Cowboys’ third receiver role.

Murray, who had 71 receptions and five touchdown catches as a senior at Oklahoma, offered a glimpse of his receiving ability during Sunday’s Blue-White scrimmage. Murray made a spectacular, leaping catch over linebacker Sean Lee for a big gain on a wheel route.

Fantasy Impact: 

Murray is listed as our 11th RB but has an ADP of early second round. He went in the first round of our 4for4.com mock draft, which will be released soon, and this news could only bump up his value a bit. He's certainly one of those RBs to target if you pick late in the first round.

Owner Jerry Jones does feel good about the way WR Dez Bryant has practiced the first two days of camp. The legal issue has not been a distraction as he has been one of the best players on the field. His only problem has been battling painful blisters on both feet.

"He’s been very impressive," Jones said. "And he’s working hard. He has big blisters on both feet. He’s practicing lights out. He’s practicing really well."

Cowboys beat writer Brandon George answered a question about WR Dez Bryant:

In the end, Bryant probably won't be convicted of the misdemeanor and probably won't be suspended. Hopefully getting off on both counts, if that's the case, doesn't make him believe he can get away with this type of behavior again. Hopefully this is a lesson learned for him and corrects his actions and gets the help that he and his family needs.

Fantasy Impact: 

The victim, Bryant's mom, does not want to press charges, so he's likely to escape a suspension. The incident itself is concerning, however, since we've been hearing glowing reports about how he has improved his maturity all offseason.
