Scouting report

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Cincinnati Bengals
In the home loss to the Saints last week Gardner Minshew looked like a rookie. He finished just 14-of-29 for 163 yards and a pick. It was his first professional game without a TD toss, and he’s passed for fewer than 220 yards in four of the six contests he’s played in. On the road Sunday in what should be a sparse crowd in Cincinnati, Minshew will be facing an average pass defense. However, the Bengals run D has been so bad that it could be the Leonard Fournette Show. Minshew remains a QB2 play.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. New Orleans Saints
Facing what was the top pass defense in the Panthers last week, Gardner Minshew threw for a career-high 374 yards and two TDs, both to D.J. Chark. The rookie has competed two-thirds of his passes and has tossed for two scores in four of his five pro games, with just one INT on the season. The Saints own the No. 19 pass defense, so it looks like another good matchup for Minshew, who should be used as a low QB1 play.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Carolina Panthers
At Denver last week, Leonard Fournette rushed for 225 yards and helped control the clock, especially during the second half. With the success on the ground, Gardner Minshew was efficient, throwing for 213 yards and two TDs, giving him four over the past two contests and seven on the season. While his completion percentage has dropped each week, the rookie continues to spread the ball around and is averaging 226 yards per game. However, Minshew will have his toughest test on the road Sunday against the Panthers top defense versus the pass. It may be a good time to look elsewhere for your starting QB.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 at Denver Broncos
Last Thursday night versus the Titans Gardner Minshew got his team in the end zone with two first-quarter TD tosses, which was enough to help the Jags secure the win. He completed 20 of 30 passes for 204 yards but could’ve had a bigger game if it weren’t for a few drops. The rookie’s accuracy has been talked about a lot and he’ll have to be on target at Denver on Sunday. The Broncos defense is allowing just 205 passing yards per game, keeping Minshew as a QB2 play.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Tennessee Titans
In his first career start last week at Houston, Gardner Minshew nearly led his team back from the dead, tossing a TD to D.J. Chark in the final minute. However, Leonard Fournette’s two-point rush attempt came up just short. In the loss, Minshew completed 70% of his passes for 212 yards and ran for another 56 yards. The Titans have yielded an average of just 183 passing yards the first two weeks, so the rookie should only be started if you’re out of other options.

JAX QB Gardner Minshew - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Houston Texans
After Nick Foles was knocked out in the first quarter last week in the loss to the Chiefs, Gardner Minshew stepped in and posted some good numbers. The rookie completed 88% of his 25 passes for 275 yards, with two TDs and one INT. With Foles placed on I.R., Minshew will be the Jaguars QB, even with the acquisition of Josh Dobbs from the Steelers. He’ll get his first road test at Houston against a solid Texans defense. If you have the roster space, Minshew may be worth stashing on your bench until a better matchup.
