IND WR Hakeem Nicks - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Hakeem Nicks - Week 2 vs. Philadelphia

There were a lot of questions about how Hakeem Nicks would be utilized in the Colts' offense before the season started. If Week 1 was any indication, he'll be pretty valuable moving forward. The free agent acquisition played on 76 percent of the team's offensive snaps and caught all five of his targets for 36 yards and a touchdown (he didn't score all of last season).

The Colts found themselves down 24-0 early in Week 1, so Nicks' playing time may have been exaggerated. We have to see if he continues to be this involved moving forward. It should be noted that he was still fifth in line for targets in Week 1 in a game where Andrew Luck threw 53 times.

He draws a favorable matchup against Philadelphia in Week 2, but his playing time is of the most concern. He should be viewed as a low WR4 option, as he wont likely be on the field in 2WR sets.

IND WR Hakeem Nicks - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Hakeem Nicks - Week 1 vs. Denver Broncos

We have to wait and see how Hakeem Nicks fits into the Colts offense. He should get opportunities to get the ball against Denver in what should be a high scoring affair.

As a member of the Giants, Nicks caught four passes for 83 yards against Denver a season ago. He should be viewed as a WR5 this week.

IND WR Hakeem Nicks - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
In 2010 and 2011 Hakeem Nicks had back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons for the New York Giants. He even hauled in 11 touchdowns during the 2010 year. While that seems like forever ago in fantasy land, remember that Nicks is still just 26 years old. He still has talent and is in a good situation in Indianapolis with a top-notch quarterback delivering him the ball.

Fantasy Downside
The former Giant has struggled in recent years. He managed to stay healthy in 2013, starting in 15 games, but he didn't produce...at all. He caught 56 passes for 896 yards and finished with no touchdowns. Nicks is also behind both Reggie Wayne and T.Y. Hilton on the depth chart, meaning he'll be limited for touches.

Bottom Line
Nicks looked good in the preseason game against his former team. He caught five passes for 53 yards and had a 36-yard catch get called back due to a penalty. Maybe all Nicks needs is a change of scenery. The biggest setback for Nicks is that he's not the No. 1 target in the Colts' offense. At best, Nicks looks to be a bye-week filler. He's worth a stash on your bench, but he can't be trusted as a reliable starter.
