Chiefs pass on bigger-name RBs

The Kansas City Chiefs had some bigger names in for running back workouts on Tuesday: Ben Tate, Pierre Thomas, Isaiah Pead and Bryce Brown.

That they went with an in-house option, Spencer Ware, to replace the injured Jamaal Charles on their roster, would seem to speak well for Ware and their other backs, Charcandrick West and Knile Davis. Ware, who played for the Chiefs in training camp and the preseason, had been on their practice squad.

The Chiefs placed Charles, who tore his ACL in Sunday's loss to the Chicago Bears, on the injured-reserve list.

Fantasy Impact: 

Most outlets say it's West who passed Davis on the depth chart as the team's RB2. Andy Reid went as far as saying West has a similar skill set to Charles while Davis is a one-cut runner. Davis has had success filling in for Charles in the past, but right now it seems like West is the back to own. However don't be surprised if Davis gets some work as well.

In a move that was probably going to happen one way or another soon enough, the St. Louis Rams released running back Isaiah Pead on Tuesday afternoon.

In the process, the team promoted cornerback Brandon McGee from the practice squad to the active roster and signed wide receiver Nick Toon to the practice squad.

Pead's time with the Rams was tumultuous at best, and he'll likely be best remembered by Rams fans as the guy who cost the team a shot at linebacker Bobby Wagner.

Tom Pelissero of USA Today reports that the Rams have waived-injured Isaiah Pead on Wednesday. Should Pead clear waivers, he can revert to the Rams and go on injured reserve for the entire season or reach an injury settlement that makes him a free agent.

St. Louis Rams running back Isaiah Pead was streaking down the field on a kickoff return when he spilled to the ground untouched.

The non-contact injury appeared to happen when he planted on his left foot in Saturday's preseason game against the Green Bay Packers. The running back was helped off the field by trainers and carted to the locker room.

Fantasy Impact: 

It turns out the injury is an ACL and Pead is lost for the season. The third-year back was well behind Zac Stacy, rookie Tre Mason and Benny Cunningham in the backfield pecking order, but was expected to make the squad due to his play on special teams.
