The Falcons repeatedly have said they plan to limit RB Michael Turner's carries. They also have said they want to get Jacquizz Rodgers, a second-year pro, more involved in the offense. Rodgers needs to use minicamp, training camp and the preseason to show he’s ready for an increased role. OC Dirk Koetter also will have to be creative in carving out that role.

Fantasy Impact: 

Even if Turner sees a 10% drop in carries (which is what we're currently projecting) and averages 4.35 yards per carry (reasonable given he rushed for 4.5 YPC last year), he'll rack up a very respectable 1,175 rushing yards. Turner's value comes from his TDs, and we don't think that he'll suddenly fall off the cliff after four consecutive 10+ TD seasons, since the Falcons should continue to move the ball well.

Falcons RB Jacquizz Rodgers senses that he could play a big role in the screen game.

“Right now, everybody is getting a shot at running screens,” Rodgers said. “I’m looking forward to being a part of that. Coach Dirk (Koetter) is huge on running the screen, so we have a lot of screens in store.”

Fantasy Impact: 

Michael Turner has never been a big pass-catcher, but he did set a career high in receptions (17) last season, so he may also be involved in the screen game.

The Atlanta Falcons have re-signed backup running back Jason Snelling.

The team announced the deal Thursday. Terms were not disclosed.

Snelling had 44 carries for 151 yards and 26 catches for 179 yards and one touchdown in 2011, when his versatility proved valuable. After opening the season as the backup to running back Michael Turner, Snelling also was used at fullback following Ovie Mughelli’s season-ending right knee injury in October.

Fantasy Impact: 

This is a prudent signing by the Falcons, who have to be aware that Michael Turner is closing in on the end of his career. Turner continues to produce, but if he goes down, it's nice to have a big back like Snelling to share the load with the speedy Jacquizz Rodgers.

Falcons RB Jason Snelling (concussion) took full practice reps on Thursday after being limited on Wednesday. If healthy, he will eat into the upside of Jacquizz Rodgers.
