ATL RB Jacquizz Rodgers - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Rodgers vs. Bucs
Jacquizz Rodgers rushed five times for 23 yards and was targeted once in the passing game but failed to record a catch in the Falcons' Week 2 loss to the Bengals. After using a four-man committee versus the Saints, the Falcons stuck with an ineffective Steven Jackson for most of the Cincinnati game. Regardless, Rodgers remains a pure COP back in Atlanta's pass-first offense and isn't a fantasy option at this point. He's our No. 47 overall RB for Week 2 and should remain on your waiver wire.

ATL RB Jacquizz Rodgers - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2: Rodgers vs. Bengals
Jacquizz Rodgers rushed six times for 34 yards with one touchdown and also caught one pass for one yard in the Falcons' 37-34 overtime victory over the Saints. His touchdown run was worthy of highlight reels as he broke several tackles on the way to the end zone. Still, he remains Steven Jackson's backup and a mere change-of-pace back in Atlanta's pass-first offense. Despite his production in Week 1, he's a limited fantasy player and should stay on your waiver wire. He's our No. 52 RB for Week 2.

ATL RB Jacquizz Rodgers - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1: Rodgers vs. Saints
Unless Steven Jackson suffers another injury, Jacquizz Rodgers will be relegated to change-of-pace duty in Dirk Koetter's offense. And even if Jackson were to suffer an injury, Rodgers has proven that he's not a featured back and is thus limited as a fantasy player. He's our RB51 for Week 1 against the Saints and should remain on your bench or waiver wire.

ATL RB Jacquizz Rodgers - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Jacquizz Rodgers has been the first back off the bench with Steven Jackson sidelined due to a hamstring injury this preseason. He obviously has the trust of the coaching staff and received the bulk of the first-team work during the Falcons' third preseason game. At least early in the year, Rodgers will lead a committee approach if Jackson were to miss time during the regular season.

Fantasy Downside
Through three seasons in the NFL, Rodgers has averaged just 3.63 yards per carry and remains limited as a runner. While he's viewed as the current change-of-pace back, it shouldn't be long before rookie Devonta Freeman passes him on the depth chart. He simply doesn't have the same upside as Freeman, who has the potential to be a RB1 down the road.

Bottom Line
There was a time when many believed that Rodgers could wind up being a starter in Atlanta, but the bottom line is that he's never cracked the top 40 among fantasy running backs during a given year. He's going to lead a committee approach if Jackson were to miss time during the regular season, but we fully expect Freeman to leapfrog Rodgers on the depth chart before the season is over. Rodgers is a change-of-pace back that has averaged just 3.63 yards per carry through three NFL seasons. He'll never be a legit RB1 (or RB2 for that matter) in fantasy leagues.
