Fantasy Upside
After tearing his ACL in the Orange Bowl last December, Jake Butt slipped to the fifth round, where the Broncos gladly snagged him. At Michigan, he showed superb hands, catching 97 passes for 1,200 yards and seven touchdowns his final two years. He has good size, at 6-foot-5 and 246 pounds.
Fantasy Downside
Butt is still recovering from his torn ACL and will, therefore, miss out on at least some of the team’s practices and first couple preseason games. When the regular season starts, he will be behind (no pun intended) a couple of veteran TEs on the depth chart in Virgil Green and Jeff Heuerman.
2017 Bottom Line
There is no reason for Butt to be on your fantasy roster at the beginning of the season. However, if the Broncos fall out of the playoff race, he could start seeing more playing time, making him a surprise free agency pickup for your championship run.
