Seneca Wallace will be involved in Browns offense

During and after a speech Monday at the Hall of Fame Luncheon Club, Browns coach Eric Mangini gave what passed for a state-of-the-quarterbacks report according to Steve Doerschuk of the Canton Repository. Jake Delhomme is the presumed starter for the Browns but Mangini was asked about Seneca Wallace.

“They’re different types of quarterbacks,” Mangini said. “Jake definitely has a larger body of work, although I’ve played against Seneca, and he was tough.”

“Regardless of how it works,” Mangini said, “Seneca’s going to have plays in there where he’ll be involved, and maybe he’ll be involved with Josh (Cribbs), and we can have some fun with that.”

Fantasy Impact:

For those of you that like to gamble on "X" Factor fantasy players, Seneca Wallace will play that role. The Cleveland QB situation is very uneasy right now given Jake Delhomme's poor performance in 2009 and the 2010 drafting of Texas QB sensation Colt McCoy.

Holmgren on McCoy: "Heck, if he's the guy, he plays"

Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren clarified remarks he made on draft day about rookie quarterback Colt McCoy not playing in 2010 in an appearance on ESPN2's Mike and Mike in the Morning today. The showed aired live from Progressive Field

"I said, 'perfectly he shouldn't play his first year,''' Holmgren said. "But heck, if he's the guy, he plays.'

Browns coach Eric Mangini also did not completely rule out McCoy for 2010 during rookie camp when he said he learned long ago from Ted Marchibroda to "never say never and never say always. You don't know.''

Both agreed that the plan is still the same: to let McCoy watch how it's done in 2010. But both also know that anything can happen.

Fantasy Impact:

We don't like McCoy's chances to be the week 1 starter, then again the idea of Jake Delhomme under center in Cleveland is just plain frightful - remember his 8TD/18INT ratio last year on an otherwise stacked team. If Jake doesn't rebound from last season we see Seneca Wallace as the week 1 starter in Cleveland. But clearly this is a fantasy situation to avoid at all costs.

Jimmy Clausen could battle for starting spot

The NFL Network's Jason La Canfora things Panthers QB Matt Moore could get some competition this summer. La Canfora sited one team official as saying Clausen drew rave reviews following the team's minicamp last weekend. Right now, it seems the job is still Moore's to lose.

Fantasy Impact:

A lot of this could be talk as Moore is no proven commidty and the last thing the Panthers want is lack of competition. But, Moore did play well last year after taking over for injured QB Jake Delhomme, and the team has always been pretty high on him. It's definitely one of the many battles to follow this summer because with WR Steve L Smith as a main target, he can give just about any QB fantasy value.
