Eagles Brent Celek is considered a blocking tight end, but Zach Ertz and James Casey are considered primarily receivers. HC Chip Kelly can split them wide, put them in the slot, put them in the backfield, or line them up tight to the line.

Fantasy Impact:

If Kelly considers Celek a blocking TE, it's not going to do much for his value on draft day. Avoid the Eagles' TEs when filling out your bench.

CNS Philly reporter Geoff Mosher said for the Eagles at tight end, it looks like a stretch for Clay Harbor to come back for year four. With Brent Celek, James Casey and Zach Ertz on the roster, it’s hard to imagine the Eagles paying Harbor’s $630,000 base salary if there’s no guarantee that he’ll be active on game day.

Philadelphia Eagles tight end James Casey will undergo arthroscopic surgery to clean out loose cartilage his right knee and will be out of action for the rest of the spring, a team spokesman confirmed to USA TODAY Sports.

The spokesman said Casey should be ready to go by the start of training camp.

Eagles HC Chip Kelly answered a question about having three starting-caliber tight ends this way: "We're going to go three tight ends in a game." So Brent Celek, James Casey, and Zach Ertz should see plenty of action.

In Kelly's four seasons as head coach, Oregon tight ends caught 16.3 percent of completed passes. By comparison, Penn State coach Bill O'Brien, one of the architects of New England's tight end-heavy offense, had his quarterbacks complete 30.1 percent of their passes to tight ends in 2012.

The difference probably had more to do with personnel than anything - Kelly had explosive wide receivers and pass-catching running backs at Oregon - but scheme played a part as well.

We aren't excited about Celek given the Eagles' additions at TE and the arrival of Kelly.
