Scouting report

GB RB James Starks - 2016 Fantasy Football Outlook

2016 Fantasy Outlook
Starks reached triple digits in carries for just the second time in his career last season and responded with a career-high 601 yards. He also crushed his career high with 43 receptions. That said, he's also now 30 and with Eddie Lacy trimmed down, Starks will likely move back into a secondary role once again. Starks is an obvious handcuff and is one of the better backup running backs in the league, one who gets a series here and there even when Lacy is running well. Starks is going in the mid-to-late rounds in most drafts, so don't wait too long.

GB RB James Starks - Week 19, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 19 at Arizona
Starks had 12 carries for 53 yards and a score and also caught a pair of passes for 12 yards, getting one more touch than Eddie Lacy in their time share. That's likely to continue with anyone's best guess being which one is more valuable. Starks is the better receiving option, so he is slightly more valuable in PPR leagues. He got just three carries against the Cardinals a couple of weeks ago, losing a fumble. But the Packers will use both, meaning you should likely use neither.

GB RB James Starks - Week 18, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 18 at Washington
Starks got just eight carries for 24 yards last week, while Eddie Lacy had 13 rushing attempts. This is a true timeshare with Lacy, with Starks having a little more value as a receiver. But neither player is much more than a complimentary fantasy player right now.

GB RB James Starks - Week 17, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 17 vs. Minnesota
When you keep on fumbling, you don't get the ball. Starks has fumbled in four consecutive games and got just three carries for 11 yards last week. Given the importance of this game, don't expect a lot of work out of Starks.

GB RB James Starks - Week 16, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 16 at Arizona
Starks got nine carries last week compared to Eddie Lacy's 11, but he outgained Lacy 50-23. But that clears up little in Green Bay's offense. Though Lacy is dealing with a rib injury, he'll likely still start, with Starks sharing time. You don't need a time share at this time of year, especially against a tough Arizona run defense.

GB RB James Starks - Week 15, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 15 at Oakland
Eddie Lacy was the workhorse last week, getting 24 carries, but Starks made the most of his touches, gaining 71 yards on 11 carries and scoring twice, once on one of his four catches for 32 yards. Lacy is going to get more touches, but Starks will stay in the mix. That said, he won't get enough carries to be more than a flex play this week.

GB RB James Starks - Week 14, 2015 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 14 vs. Dallas
With Eddie Lacy in a limited role after missing curfew, Starks had an opportunity to shine last week. He failed, gaining 15 yards on nine carries. Head coach Mike McCarthy is talking Lacy up this week but it's looking more and more like a time share with Starks in a situation where the team could ride the hot hand. That makes it tough to start either back against Dallas' 18th ranked fantasy RB defense.
