More touches could be in store for Titan RB Ringer

Chris Johnson has carried 75 times in three games this season, but Coach Jeff Fisher says there are no plans on limiting him in practice.

Instead, Fisher said Monday he may use Javon Ringer more extensively in games. Ringer provided a spark with a 17-yard run on Sunday, and he’s totaled 64 yards on 13 carries – a 4.9-yard average. Johnson has gained 301 yards on his 75 carries, an average of 4.0 per run.

"I’m giving some thought to getting Javon some more carries early in the ballgame because he’s been very effective for us," Fisher said. "We’re switching backs to give (the backs) a break and Javon is making big plays for us."

Fantasy Impact: 

While Johnson owners love seeing him get all the touches at RB, it's probably for the best Ringer chips in now and then so Johnson is around later this season. Johnson will still be considered the top one or two RB week-to-week in the fantasy world.

If there's "a silver lining" to Chris Johnson making himself scarce in Tennessee, says Mike Heimderdinger, it's touches for sophomore running back Javon Ringer. Ringer saw action in seven games last season, but carried just eight times for 48 yards. He didn't catch any passes. "I think this has been really good for Javon," Heimderdinger said Monday, at the Titans Charity Golf Classic at Hillwood Country Club. "Javon had like his redshirt year (as a rookie). He carried the ball a lot of times in college. His running ability is really good."

Titans offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger feels that if there’s any silver lining to Chris Johnson’s continued absence during offseason workouts, it’s been the increased repetitions for second-year back Javon Ringer.

Ringer saw action in seven games last season, but carried just eight times for 48 yards. He didn’t catch any passes.

While it may be good news for Ringer, hopefully for those who dream of protecting Chris Johnson in keeper leagues, you're not watching Ringer get all the carries in September...

Titans count heavily on RB Javon Ringer

Titans RB Javon Ringer, a fifth-round pick last year, was the only running backon the field as the Titans practiced twice last week.

With Lendale White traded to the Seahawks, and Chris Johnson training in Florida, the second year RB Javon Ringer knows an opportunity when he sees one. "A lot of things have gone through my mind,'' he said. "During the draft, when LenDale did get traded, my first thought for him was, 'Best luck to LenDale.' And then I pretty much knew C.J. wasn't going to be around, so I knew I was going to be the main running back here.

"My whole mind-set was to make sure I know my assignments and make sure when I am out there I know what I am doing. I just want to make sure people feel comfortable with me in there, and make sure our offense didn't miss a beat.''

When the Titans return to the field in mid-May, undrafted rookies LeGarrette Blount and Stafon Johnson will be there.

Ringer has the edge. Michigan State's second all-time leading rusher put together an impressive training camp last year but was slowed by a back injury and got only eight carries during the season.
