Broncos TE Julius Thomas worked his way into more and more repetitions during training camp -- part of his first healthy offseason as a pro -- and eventually led the team in preseason catches and tied for the lead in preseason receiving yards. Thomas has moved all the way to No. 1 on the tight end depth chart.

Fantasy Impact: 

Thomas now finds himself ahead of Joel Dreessen, Jacob Tamme and Virgil Green. Dreessen and Tamme have had injury issues. Thomas ranks 19th on our TE list making him a low-end TE2.

“It was good to see him. He made some errors in the running game and in the passing game. He’s got to clean a few things up. But obviously everybody can see, as an athlete, the guy has got a lot of talent. And we’re going to keep bringing him along, and give him as many reps as possible. He still has a lot of things to learn and a lot of things he needs to see.”

Fantasy Impact: 

Thomas's upside will depend somewhat on the injury status of the more experienced Jacob Tamme and Joel Dreessen.

The Denver Broncos have gotten some bad news on tight end Joel Dreessen.

The team's starting tight end will be sidelined for the rest of training camp after suffering a setback with his surgically repaired left knee, The Denver Post reported Saturday.

Dreessen originally underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in late May. He will now undergo a second arthroscopic procedure to clean up the knee, a person with knowledge of the procedure told USA Today on Sunday.

It's a sudden turn of events for Dreessen, who had been practicing without any reported issues through Friday. He sat out the team's scrimmage on Saturday because of pain in the knee, according to USA Today.

Fantasy Impact: 

We figure Jacob Tamme to get more catches of the group, but Dreessen is the better blocker and has also been a red zone target. Neither player is more than a TE2 option.

Broncos HC John Fox said after Thursday's practice that tight end Joel Dreessen has had arthroscopic surgery on his knee and will not be available for the remainder of offseason workouts, including the team's mandatory minicamp June 11-13.
