Scouting report

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 8 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 8 vs. Washington Commanders

Jonathan Taylor was limited to 58 yards on 10 carries last week in a loss to the Titans. Luckily, he salvaged an otherwise poor fantasy performance with 27 yards on seven receptions. Getting him involved in the passing game will help raise his floor, even if this team doesn’t improve under a new quarterback. His eight targets were the most he’s had this season.

This week, Taylor should get back on track against the Commanders. Washington ranks 14th in aFPA to opposing running backs, but the Colts will be starting Sam Ehlinger at quarterback, so a run-based approach is likely. Expect a busy day for Taylor and a trip back to RB1 numbers as we have him ranked just inside our top 10 this week.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 7 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 7 at Tennessee Titans

Jonathan Taylor has missed the past two games with injury, and while he was gone last week, the Colts started to play some actual offense. That should spell good things for Taylor moving forward. Hopefully, he’ll face less defenders in the box as Matt Ryan gets more comfortable in the offense.

This week, Taylor gets a tough matchup against the Titans and their eighth-ranked defense in aFPA to opposing running backs. Taylor’s health is the bigger issue, as he’s still a question mark going into Week 7, but was at least practicing this week. Fantasy managers should be ready with an emergency lineup change if needed, but if he’s active, Taylor is a must-start in all leagues.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 6 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 6 vs. Jacksonville Jaguars

Jonathan Taylor missed last week with an ankle injury and his status for this week against the Jaguars is still uncertain. If he starts, he should definitely be in fantasy lineups given his potential for big numbers, but temper expectations coming off an injury and watch the injury report diligently with a backup plan in place in case he’s a late scratch. Should Taylor miss another outing, expect Deon Jackson and Philip Lindsay to once again split the work, and for neither to be super appealing fantasy targets.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 5 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 5 at Denver Broncos

Jonathan Taylor hurt his ankle against the Titans last week, and was held to just 45 yards on 20 carries and a reception. Taylor’s status for Thursday night is in doubt, so monitor his health right up until game time. The Broncos rank 11th in aFPA to opposing running backs, so it’s not a great matchup anyway. If you have Taylor, and he’s active, you’re starting him. However, be ready with a backup plan in case you have to take him out of your lineup at the last minute. Philip Lindsay and/or Deon Jackson seem most likely to benefit, but I’d just stay away entirely.

Update: Officially out, so make sure he's out of your lineups.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 4 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 4 vs. Tennessee Titans

Jonathan Taylor hasn’t put up those lofty numbers he did a year ago the last two weeks, but he’s still clearly the primary cog in the Colts offense. He ran for 71 yards on 21 carries in a win against the Chiefs last week, and added another 20 yards on three receptions.

This week, Taylor faces a Titans defense that ranks 28th in aFPA to opposing running backs. Expect another busy day for Taylor and for a hard-fought battle between these two division rivals. Taylor should be considered a must-start in any week given his talent and role, but he’s extra appealing in a nice matchup. Start him as our RB1 this week.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 3 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3 vs. Kansas City Chiefs

Jonathan Taylor struggled along with the rest of the offense against the Jaguars last week, rushing for 54 yards on just nine carries as the team was behind for essentially the entire game. He added one reception for nine yards as well.

This week, Taylor should rebound against the Chiefs, despite a tough overall matchup. He’s too talented not to produce and if the Colts can just stay within spitting distance of the high-powered Kansas City offense, Taylor should get use. He was drafted to be your anchor, so start him.

IND RB Jonathan Taylor - Week 2 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2 at Jacksonville Jaguars

Jonathan Taylor picked up right where he left off last season, rushing for 161 yards and a touchdown against the Texans in Week 1. Taylor also added 14 yards on four receptions and was targeted seven times. His 31 carries when the Colts trailed for much of the contest are indicative of his role and his value to this offense. Fantasy managers should have no concerns about a shift in offensive philosophy with a new quarterback under center this season.

This week, Taylor faces a Jaguars defense that looks stronger up front this season compared to last, but still allowed 4.1 yards per carry on 14 rushes to Antonio Gibson last week. Regardless of matchup, Taylor is a must-start in all formats and is our top ranked running back for fantasy managers. Set it and forget it.
