One of history’s most beloved writers is Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway once wrote “my big fish must be somewhere.” If Hemingway was alive today and owned a fantasy team, he would probably have a soft spot for Junior Hemingway, but certainly would not consider him a big fish. And neither would anyone else. Nevertheless, Junior is part of an offense that started scoring more points in the second half of the 2013 season. Will he end up benefiting from Kansas City’s offensive improvement?
Fantasy Upside
Hemingway’s roster spot could have been in jeopardy had the Chiefs made any personnel improvements during the offseason. All they did was swap out slot players, with rookie De’Anthony Thomas taking over for Tennessee-bound Dexter McCluster. He could still play a role, especially with Kansas City’s number one receiver, Dwayne Bowe, suspended for the first game of the season.
Fantasy Downside
A hip injury this preseason has cost Hemingway playing time. Junior has had a modest career so far. The 2012 seventh-round pick has 13 receptions for 125 yards and two touchdowns, all of which came last season. Anyone who cannot earn extensive playing time ahead of Donnie Avery is going to have a hard time helping fantasy teams.
Bottom Line
Hemingway seems destined to always be a little fish. Cast your bait elsewhere.
