Fantasy Upside
Khiry Robinson carved out a role for himself as a rookie last year while rushing for 224 yards and a touchdown on 54 carries. He seemingly hasn’t relinquished that role in 2014, as he mixed in with the first-team offense in the team’s third preseason game (which is often viewed as a dress rehearsal for NFL teams). If either Mark Ingram or Pierre Thomas were to suffer injuries during the regular season, then Robinson would be a nice stash in all formats.
Fantasy Downside
Although he’s likely to receive more carries, Robinson finished as fantasy’s RB80 last year and it’s unlikely that his role is going to increase much more from last season. In the third preseason game this year, Robinson saw plenty of carries in between the 20s but Ingram got the majority of red-zone looks and Thomas worked in the passing game. If Payton uses the three backs in a similar fashion during the regular season then Robinson offers the least amount of fantasy value of the three backs.
Bottom Line
Robinson will have more value to the Saints than he will to fantasy owners this year. If he’s not going to receive looks in the red zone and if Thomas continues to be the main passing back, then Robinson’s production will be severely limited. He’s currently going undrafted in both standard and PPR formats and unless there’s an injury, Robinson won’t be worth a waiver wire pickup either.
