QB Kyle Orton had some nice things to say about WR Eric Decker.

"He's ideal as a slot receiver," Orton said. "He can play outside too, but as a slot receiver he can really be an impact receiver with his combination of quickness, his size, and his brain.

"We worked hard together this whole offseason. Your slot receiver, he's got to be right. He's got to see the field and see the coverages the same way as the quarterback."

The Broncos might have to play Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals without Champ Bailey, Brandon Lloyd and Knowshon Moreno.

One player the Broncos will have for their season's second game at Sports Authority Field at Mile High is quarterback Kyle Orton.

"Some good, some bad like everybody else on the team," Broncos coach John Fox said during a conference call today when asked to assess Orton's performance in the season-opening 23-20 loss Monday night to the Oakland Raiders.

"We came up a little short. There were plenty of reasons why. It wasn't just the quarterback by any stretch. Kyle is our starting quarterback and I don't think too many guys are firing all their guys because their team happened to lose in week one."

Brady Quinn is primary backup for Broncos

Q: Why hasn't Brady Quinn been cut? The Broncos would be better off carrying another defensive player than a third-string quarterback.

A: Not only are the Broncos carrying three quarterbacks on the 53-man roster, they signed undrafted rookie quarterback Adam Weber​ to their practice squad.

That's a lot of quarterbacks for the limited amount of work anybody not named Kyle Orton is going to get during practices. But only one of those quarterbacks — second-year pro Tim Tebow — is under contract beyond this season.

If Orton gets hurt this season and has to leave a game for good or miss some playing time, Quinn is the primary backup. That's why Quinn, a former first-round draft pick from Notre Dame, wasn't released.

If Orton stays healthy this season, Tebow figures to get more playing time than Quinn because of the situational duties Tebow will have.

The Broncos have some plays in the offense specially designed for Tebow, run-pass options at various spots on the field. So look for Tebow to get some playing time even if Orton stays healthy.

During practices before each game, Orton will take almost all of the snaps with Denver's No. 1 offense. Quinn and Tebow will share whatever snaps are left.

Denver Broncos quarterback Kyle Orton led Denver back from a shaky start with two touchdown drives and the Broncos’ defense throttled Tarvaris Jackson in a 23-20 victory over the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle kicker Jeff Reed tied it at 20 with a 53-yard field goal with 1:16 left in regulation, but Tim Tebow had a 19-yard scramble in leading the Broncos downfield for Steven Haushka’s 51-yarder as time expired.

The Broncos (2-1) sacked Jackson five times, with Von Miller getting two and Elvis Dumervil 1 1/2.

Dumervil missed last season after tearing a chest muscle in training camp shortly after parlaying his 17-sack season into a big contract. The Broncos sputtered without him and chose Miller out of Texas A&M with the second overall draft pick in April. Miller has three sacks in the preseason.

Fantasy Impact: 

Granted, it was against the Seahawks, but the duo of Dumervil and Miller was very impressive. IDP owners should take note. Jackson played into the 4th quarter and threw for only 93 yards. His signing remains one of the greatest mysteries of the 2011 offseason. Tebow was the only quarterback who played for Denver besides Orton.
