Willis McGahee has clearly been the No. 1 running back in Broncos training camp and has been getting the veteran treatment through the first two weeks of practice. He will take all of the first repetitions but cede other snaps to the younger guys behind him, such as Lance Ball, Jeremiah Johnson and Xavier Omon.

A closer look at McGahee's totals show he stayed remarkably consistent [last year]. He had three 100-yard games in four starts playing behind Kyle Orton, and he averaged 20.3 carries per game in those starts. That incarnation of the Broncos' offense featured a more traditional passing game, with wide receivers Brandon Lloyd and Eric Decker as the featured players.

The Denver Post has confirmed that Broncos RB Mario Fannin tore his Achilles’ tendon during a scrimmage on Saturday and is out for the season. Willis McGahee remains the starter in Denver, while Knowshon Moreno remains in a competition with Ronnie Hillman, Lance Ball and Jeremiah Johnson for the backup spot.

Knowshon Moreno lost the Broncos' starting tailback job to Willis McGahee last year and was used mostly in a third-down role before he was injured. McGahee remains the team's starter, and the team drafted a running back, Ronnie Hillman, in the third round. Veteran Lance Ball also has taken plenty of snaps with the first-team offense through the first five days of camp. Other running backs in camp include Mario Fannin (also coming off an ACL injury), Jeremiah Johnson and Xavier Omon.

Moreno's snaps Monday came right after McGahee's work with the rest of the first-team offense.
