Scouting report

STL TE Lance Kendricks - Week 3, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 3: Kendricks vs. Cowboys
Lance Kendricks caught 3-of-4 targets for 25 yards in the Rams' Week 2 win over the Buccaneers. Kendicks is nothing if not consistent, as he usually posts the same 3-25-0 stat line each and every week. He's not a fantasy option.

STL TE Lance Kendricks - Week 2, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 2: Kendricks vs. Bucs
Lance Kendricks caught two passes for 12 yards and was targeted three times in the Rams' Week 1 loss to the Vikings. The two catches for minimal yardage is on par to Kendricks' production a year ago. He's not a fantasy option and should remain on your waiver wire.

STL TE Kendricks Lance - Week 1, 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Week 1: Kendricks vs. Vikings
Lance Kendricks will see his 2-3 targets every week and some of those looks may come inside the red zone. But his overall production will be limited as Jared Cook will continue to be the "move" tight end in the Rams' run-first option. Leave Kendricks on your waiver wire.

STL TE Lance Kendricks - 2014 Fantasy Football Outlook

Fantasy Upside
Even though he's primarily a blocking tight end in the Rams' offense, Lance Kendricks still caught four touchdowns in 2013, which matched his TD production from 2012. If Jared Cook were to suffer an injury, Kendricks would have an increased role in the passing offense.

Fantasy Downside
Kendricks' touchdown total stayed the same but he caught 10 fewer passes for 261 fewer yards last season after the Rams signed Cook in free agency. While the team does like to throw to him in the flats and inside the red zone, Kendricks' fantasy potential will always be limited by his role and his skill set.

Bottom Line
Avoid Kendricks in your drafts. Even if Cook were to suffer an injury, Kendricks' role will remain limited in the passing game and he's unlikely to improve upon his TE33 finish in 2013. He shouldn't even be considered as a TE2.
